THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position oversees inspection and engineering activities on complex highway and bridge construction projects to ensure full compliance with required plans and standards. Your responsibilities will focus on coordinating work, guiding staff, and resolving technical issues as construction progresses. As a Construction Field IIC, you will perform the following duties:


  • Project Oversight: Manage highway and bridge construction activities to ensure compliance with approved plans and standards
  • Engineering Guidance: Provide evaluations and technical direction to resolve design issues and field challenges
  • Documentation Management: Prepare and review reports, estimates, work orders, and material certifications
  • Team Leadership: Direct the work of inspection staff and support their development and performance
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Work with municipalities, contractors, utilities, and other partners to address project needs
  • Site Evaluation: Assess job progress, safety practices, and construction methods to maintain quality and safety

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Overtime and travel as needed.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 50% of the work schedule, upon successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Allentown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.


Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
