Job Title: General Laborer – Concrete Cutting and Construction

Job Description

Join a construction team that offers steady, year-round work supporting both local projects and a long-term mission-critical facility. In this role, you primarily perform concrete cutting and general labor, working closely with foremen and equipment operators. You support concrete and construction activities both locally and on a 12‑month project located approximately two hours south of Fargo, with most work performed indoors and some tasks outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist foremen and equipment operators with concrete cutting and related construction tasks.
  • Perform concrete cutting work, including preparation, setup, and cleanup of work areas.
  • Support foundation and flatwork concrete crews, underground construction crews, framing crews, and other trade teams as needed.
  • Handle general construction labor duties such as material handling, site preparation, and basic carpentry tasks.
  • Operate or assist with equipment such as skid steers under supervision, following safety guidelines.
  • Work primarily indoors (approximately 90% of the time), with some outdoor work (approximately 10%) in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel to the project site near Ellendale, ND when required, following company procedures for travel and lodging.
  • Meet at the shop each morning between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. and work until approximately 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Work extended hours during peak summer season as needed to meet project timelines.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures on job sites and in the shop.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with end-of-day cleanup.
  • Collaborate with a crew of 3–4 team members to complete daily tasks efficiently and safely.

Essential Skills

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and perform physically demanding construction work.
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Reliability to meet at the shop between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. and work full days Monday through Friday.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to projects approximately two hours south of Fargo when needed.
  • Preference for candidates with any construction or outdoor work experience, including construction, lawn care, landscaping, concrete, or similar work (experience not strictly required).
  • Up to 1–2 years of construction or concrete experience is preferred for higher starting pay.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on foundation or flatwork concrete crews.
  • Prior experience in underground construction, framing, or trade apprenticeships.
  • Experience with concrete work, including preparation, placement, and finishing.
  • Familiarity with operating skid steers or similar construction equipment.
  • Basic carpentry skills or experience in general labor on construction sites.
  • Comfort working as part of a small crew and taking direction from foremen and operators.

Why Work Here?

You join a construction team that values stability, offering year-round employment rather than seasonal layoffs. The organization provides consistent hours during peak seasons and maintains you on the payroll through the winter, even when hours may be reduced. You benefit from paid drive time, covered hotel stays, and daily per diem when traveling out of town, reflecting a commitment to supporting employees on the road. The work environment emphasizes teamwork, hands-on learning, and opportunities to build valuable construction skills that can support long-term career growth.

Work Environment

You work in a construction setting, typically as part of a crew of 3–4 people. Approximately 90% of the work takes place indoors, with about 10% outdoors where you may be exposed to the elements. The role focuses on concrete cutting and general construction tasks, often involving concrete crews, underground work, framing, and related activities. You regularly lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks. Standard hours run Monday through Friday, typically meeting at the shop between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. and finishing around 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with extended hours during the peak summer season. When assigned to the project near Ellendale, ND, drive time is paid, hotel stays in Aberdeen, SD are covered, and you receive a daily per diem for each day worked. Employment is generally year-round, with full-time hours in the busy season and potentially reduced, part-time hours during the winter.
