A Neuro-Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (Neuro ICU RN) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill patients with severe neurological conditions, such as traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), strokes, spinal cord injuries, and other life-threatening neurological disorders. The Neuro ICU RN focuses on closely monitoring and managing patients with complex neurological conditions, ensuring timely interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n- \n
- Assess, plan, and provide critical care for patients with neurological disorders, including traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, spinal cord injury, and neurovascular conditions. \n
- Monitor and evaluate patients’ neurological status using tools such as the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), ICP monitoring, and neurologic exams to detect changes in neurological function. \n
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and interventions specific to neurological conditions, including anti-seizure medications, pain management, and neuro-critical care medications. \n
- Collaborate with neurologists, neurosurgeons, intensivists, and other multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement care plans tailored to each patient’s needs. \n
- Manage invasive monitoring devices such as ICP monitors, ventriculostomies, and arterial lines, ensuring their proper use and documentation. \n
- Recognize and respond to life-threatening neurological emergencies, including increased intracranial pressure, seizures, and neurological decline. \n
- Provide education and support to patients and families on managing neurological conditions, rehabilitation, and medication adherence. \n
- Document neurological assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. \n
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, ensuring effective communication and care coordination with the neurocritical care team. \n

- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted. \n

- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. \n

- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required. \n
- Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) preferred. \n
