About this job
Job Description
Technical Interior Designer – Retail Interiors (3–8 Years) | New York, NY | $75K–$115K
Location: New York, NY (Midtown Manhattan) | Schedule: Full-time, 4 days in office + 1 remote day | Salary: $75,000–$115,000 (based on experience, qualifications and skill set)
Are you a retail-focused technical designer who takes pride in a flawless drawing set? I'm partnering with one of New York City's most established and respected interior architecture firms, an award-winning practice with a decades-long legacy and a portfolio that includes some of the most recognisable retail brands in the country, to find an Intermediate Technical Designer to lead drawing production on their retail projects.
This is a firm known for its approachable, advisory relationship with clients, genuine stability, and a steady pipeline of high-profile retail work. You'll own your documents, coordinate directly with consultants and PMs, and see projects through from survey to punch-list, real end-to-end involvement, not just CD production in a silo.
What you'll be doing:
- Producing detailed, accurate drawing sets across SD, DD and CD phases, with a focus on retail-specific detailing and coordination
- Travelling to perform architectural site surveys and construction site visits, including punch-lists at project completion
- Coordinating with external consultants to deliver complete, coordinated construction documents suitable for landlord approval, AHJ sign-off and accurate GC bidding
- Supporting the Project Manager with construction document coordination and approvals
- During construction: attending weekly virtual OAC calls, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, and responding to GC RFIs
What you'll bring:
- 3–8 years of professional experience, ideally with a retail interiors focus
- Expert proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD (Bluebeam and Adobe a plus)
- Working knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements and industry standards
- An independent, creative mindset paired with strong collaboration and communication skills
- Comfort in fast-paced, detail-rich project environments
Why this firm: Long-standing NYC practice with name-brand retail clients, a collaborative and low-ego culture, hybrid flexibility, and genuine room to grow your technical career.
Our client is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, we're proud to support inclusive hiring across the design industry.
