Duties
- Manage patient referrals by coordinating with healthcare providers and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits through managed care systems to facilitate timely approvals
- Assist patients with appointment scheduling, follow-up communications, and addressing inquiries related to their care plans
- Maintain and organize medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) codes such as ICD-9 and ICD-10, to accurately document procedures and diagnoses
- Support insurance verification processes by reviewing medical records and coding information for billing accuracy
- Collaborate with medical offices and dental practices to streamline referral processes and improve patient experience
Requirements
- Prior experience in a medical office or dental office setting is highly preferred
- Knowledge of managed care processes, insurance verification, and medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and medical records management
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Office experience that demonstrates attention to detail and effective communication skills
- Experience working with insurance providers or in a healthcare administrative role is a plus
