What You Will Do:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will play a pivotal role in conducting high-quality laboratory testing to support patient diagnoses and treatment plans. Your responsibilities will include following established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, and reporting results with precision. You will maintain detailed records of testing activities, ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, and uphold stringent quality control measures. Your keen eye for detail and problem-solving skills will be essential in identifying and correcting any issues that may impact test accuracy or reporting. Additionally, you will review, verify, and release test results, participate in quality assurance activities, and assist in training and mentoring staff on new procedures.
You will be expected to collaborate effectively with laboratory team members, communicate critical results promptly according to department protocols, and maintain a clean and organized workspace. Upholding safety guidelines and participating in ongoing training sessions will be key to ensuring a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting.
Maintain comprehensive records of all testing activities, including quality control, calibration, and maintenance logs.
Conduct high-complexity testing using validated methods in accordance with SOPs.
Analyze specimens accurately and review results for correctness before reporting.
Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other relevant safety and regulatory guidelines.
Perform quality control checks, document all QC activities, and address any deviations.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues affecting test performance, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Review, validate, and communicate critical or STAT results efficiently and accurately.
Participate in training sessions on new or updated procedures and attend regular departmental meetings.
Assist with regulatory inspections and audit preparations when required.
Maintain the laboratory’s cleanliness, organization, and proper storage of reagents and test kits.
Adhere to safety protocols, including the proper use of safety equipment, and keep the safety manual accessible.
Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with laboratory best practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Solid understanding of clinical laboratory testing procedures and standards.
Knowledge of quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and laboratory safety protocols.
Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to multiple laboratory information systems.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with team members and communicate results clearly.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from recognized certifying bodies such as ASCP or AMT is highly preferred.
Current state and/or national licensure as required by local regulations.
Nice to Have Skills:
Experience with high complexity testing in a clinical environment.
Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and troubleshooting.
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory setting.
Bilingual skills, especially in languages commonly used in healthcare, can be beneficial for patient interaction.
Preferred Education and Experience:
A Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology is preferred.
An Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with relevant certification is acceptable.
Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing.
Candidates educated outside the U.S. must provide a credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.-educated candidates should submit official transcripts.
Other Requirements:
Availability to work Tuesday through Saturday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and interact professionally across departments.
Proven customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
Ability to lift, move, and handle laboratory specimens and supplies as necessary.
Physical stamina to perform testing and stand for extended periods.
