Overview:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you'll be responsible for performing high-complexity laboratory tests that directly influence diagnoses and treatment plans. Working a scheduled shift from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, you'll contribute to patient health while honing your skills in a state-of-the-art clinical setting. Responsibilities:
Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing to ensure accurate test results.
Perform and document a variety of clinical laboratory tests, analyzing specimens with approved methodologies outlined in departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Review, interpret, and release test results promptly, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA.
Maintain meticulous records of all testing activities, including quality control measures, instrument calibrations, and maintenance logs.
Adhere to strict quality assurance protocols and promptly identify, troubleshoot, or escalate any issues affecting test accuracy or reliability.
Document corrective actions for any deviations from performance standards, ensuring traceability and regulatory compliance.
Communicate critical or STAT results with appropriate urgency to healthcare providers or laboratory leadership as mandated by department policies.
Maintain the integrity, appearance, and organization of the laboratory workspace, ensuring availability and proper storage of reagents, test kits, and supplies with valid expiration and open dates.
Participate in ongoing training, including new procedure reviews, safety programs, and continuing education sessions.
Support regulatory inspections and contribute to a culture of safety and quality within the laboratory environment.
Collaborate effectively with department colleagues and other healthcare professionals to support clinical workflows and patient care initiatives.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.
Required Skills:
Strong understanding of basic and high-complexity laboratory testing processes.
Proficiency in laboratory computer systems, with the ability to quickly adapt to multiple platforms.
Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) standards, along with experience in instrument calibration and maintenance.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation and report generation.
Effective communication skills, capable of explaining technical information clearly to team members and, when necessary, to clients.
Ability to prioritize multiple procedures efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Commitment to patient confidentiality and adherence to safety protocols.
Nice to Have Skills:
Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar software.
Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Additional certification or training in specific testing modalities or quality management.
Prior exposure to government or regulatory agency inspections.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology is preferred; an Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology is acceptable.
Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from recognized agencies like ASCP or AMT is highly desirable and required for licensure eligibility.
A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing is preferred.
Foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.-educated candidates should submit a detailed original transcript.
Other Requirements:
Certification or licensure as required by state or federal regulations (e.g., MT/MLT certification).
Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize tasks.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with team members and clients.
Physical ability to handle laboratory materials, including reagents and specimens.
