Housing Coordinator (Live-In)
Janus of Santa Cruz
Department: Recovery Residences / Housing Services
Classification: Trade for rent
Reports To: Housing Services Supervisor
Schedule: Live-in role with flexible availability, including evenings and weekends as needed. This position is estimated to work five to ten hours a week with an hourly rate if surpassed.
Position Summary
Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking a dedicated, community-oriented Housing Coordinator to help maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-focused housing environment for individuals in substance use disorder (SUD) recovery.
The Housing Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting daily operations within a recovery residence, fostering a respectful and supportive community, and helping residents stay engaged in their recovery goals. This role emphasizes safety, accountability, life skills development, and adherence to trauma-informed care.
This is a live-in position that includes covered rent in exchange for job responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Support & Community Building
- Orient new residents and foster an inclusive, respectful living environment
- Support residents in maintaining structure, including schedules, chores, appointments, and recovery activities
- Encourage progress toward recovery goals and recognize milestones
- Facilitate weekly house meetings, including check-ins, meal planning, and conflict resolution
House Operations & Oversight
- Oversee daily household operations to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained residence
- Assign and monitor daily and weekly chores, including deep cleaning
- Maintain the house calendar
- Manage household inventory and inform manager of needed repairs and maintenance
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards, including food safety and general property upkeep
- Respond promptly to safety concerns or emergencies and notify appropriate staff
- Monitor for substance use and follow program protocols, including administering drug tests when required
- Maintain medication logs and securely manage resident-controlled medications per guidelines
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with the Recovery Residence Case Manager and Peer Support staff to support resident needs
- Communicate concerns related to resident well-being, safety, or house dynamics
- Complete required documentation and adhere to program reporting and data tracking expectations
- Escalate urgent or unsafe conditions to leadership in a timely manner
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve house operations, resident engagement, and efficiency
- Apply problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic residential environment
QualificationsMinimum Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Lived experience with recovery
- Peer Support Certification highly desirable
Skills & Experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and maintain appropriate boundaries
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to changing situations
- Experience in behavioral health, recovery services, or residential settings preferred
