The Corrections Food Service Instructor position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Pine Grove offers a unique chance to share your passion for food service with individuals who are eager to learn new skills. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the food service operations of SCI Pine Grove by leading inmate workers and providing hands-on vocational training. It requires strong food service knowledge, attention to safety, and a commitment to teaching practical skills. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Skill Instruction: Teach inmates food preparation, production, service, baking, and safe use of tools and equipment
- Meal Preparation: Guide inmates in following recipes, preparing meals on schedule, and maintaining quality standards
- Safety Oversight: Inspect food areas, equipment, and products to ensure compliance with sanitation and safety requirements
- Inventory Management: Requisition, receive, store, and rotate food and supplies using first in, first out procedures
- Work Supervision: Assign tasks, review performance, maintain records, and ensure care, custody, and control during work activities
- Waste Reduction: Adjust recipes based on census data and recycle leftover food into usable products as appropriate

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work shifts TO BE DETERMINED. You will have rotating days off.
- 1st shift 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM
- 2nd shift 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
