Overview:

Join a leading clinical laboratory team as a Specimen Processing Technician and be essential to delivering accurate and timely laboratory results. Responsibilities:

  • Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, including presorting, accessioning, and managing various specimen types.
  • Sort, centrifuge, aliquot, and prepare specimens for testing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to laboratory protocols.
  • Pickup and deliver processed specimens efficiently within the laboratory to meet turnaround times.
  • Operate imaging/microfilming equipment and maintain detailed, accurate data entry at a high keystroke rate (up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour).
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area that complies with safety standards, including biohazard precautions.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and staff across shifts, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
  • Adapt to daily changes in test requirements, procedures, and compliance regulations, maintaining flexibility and professionalism.

    Required Skills:

  • Strong data entry skills with the ability to perform high-volume alphanumeric keystrokes accurately.
  • Basic computer literacy and understanding of laboratory testing or specimen processing preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work in a biohazard environment, practicing safety protocols.

    Nice to Have Skills:

  • Previous laboratory or hospital experience, particularly in specimen processing or technical support roles.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to clinical laboratory testing.
  • Experience working with laboratory instrumentation or microfilming equipment.

    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in a production environment that emphasizes quality and productivity is preferred.

    Other Requirements:

  • This is a third shift position, with a 15% shift differential included in pay rate.
  • Availability for weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed to meet departmental staffing demands.
  • Must adhere to all safety, compliance, and confidentiality policies.
  • Physical ability to sit or stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
