Overview:

Responsibilities:
- Perform general specimen support functions within the specimen processing department, including presort, pickup, and delivery of specimens to the laboratory.
- Accurately perform tasks such as imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting of specimens, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Manage high-volume data entry, with a proficiency of approximately 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety and departmental policies.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other staff to ensure smooth workflow and compliance with changing test specifications and regulations.
- Adapt to fluctuating daily demands, demonstrating flexibility in work schedule, including participation in night shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties as needed.
Required Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with laboratory testing or specimen processing is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to learn and understand various specimen types and testing procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and specimen handling.
- Effective communication skills across all levels of staff.
- Ability to work in a biohazard environment while practicing good safety habits.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work demands, including shift work.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in specimen processing.
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to clinical laboratory work.
- Experience working in a production environment with strict quality and efficiency standards.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous laboratory or hospital experience is advantageous but not mandatory for qualified candidates seeking entry-level roles.
Other Requirements:
- This is a third-shift role, with a 15% shift differential added to the base pay.
- Availability for weekend, holiday, and on-call work based on staffing needs.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and handle physical demands of specimen handling.
- Participation in safety training and adherence to biohazard protocols essential to maintaining a safe work environment.
