Responsibilities

Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, including presorting, pickup, and delivery of specimens to appropriate lab areas.

Manage specimen processing tasks such as centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and microfilming with precision and timeliness.

Accurately enter and verify large volumes of alphanumeric data, supporting laboratory test ordering and specimen tracking.

Ensure specimens are handled according to safety protocols in a biohazard environment and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Adapt to changing compliance regulations related to laboratory testing and specimen handling on a daily basis.

Collaborate effectively with team members across different shifts, providing excellent communication and support during high-demand periods.

Uphold departmental quality standards, productivity goals, and safety policies to ensure optimal customer satisfaction.

Required Skills

Strong data entry skills, with the ability to perform at least 6,000 keystrokes per hour.

Basic understanding of computers and proficiency in data management.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in specimen handling and processing.

Ability to learn and understand various specimen types and testing requirements quickly.

Effective communication skills to liaise with team members and support a positive work environment.

Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, based on departmental needs.

Strong adherence to safety protocols, especially in biohazard settings.

Nice to Have Skills

Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, hospital, or production environment.

Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and laboratory information systems.

Background in medical terminology or healthcare-related fields.

Experience working in an ISO or regulatory-compliant laboratory setting.

Preferred Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment is a plus.

Other Requirements

This is a third-shift position with a 15% shift differential added to pay.

Availability for on-call, weekends, holidays, and overtime is required based on staffing needs.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during shift.

Physical ability to handle repeated manual tasks and work within a biohazard environment safely.
