Position Summary
The Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides specialized nursing care to patients requiring a higher level of monitoring and intervention than a medical-surgical unit but not intensive care unit (ICU) services. The PCU RN manages complex patient conditions, monitors cardiac rhythms, administers medications and treatments, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and respond appropriately to rhythm changes.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and specialized treatments.
- Monitor patients requiring continuous cardiac, respiratory, and hemodynamic observation.
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating care when necessary.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety initiatives.
- Participate in rapid response and emergency situations as required.
