Job Description:
Responsible to Unit Director for overall nursing practice. Includes the responsibility for assessment of childbearing women (adolescence to middle adulthood), neonates, and family needs, the development of a plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of nursing care based on outcomes for the population served.
Responsibilities:
- Assessing patient and family's developmental level, health status, and health history including sexual and reproductive history and identified learning needs.
- Performing initial assessment and stabilization of the neonate.
- Developing a plan of care based on identified physical and learning needs.
- Teaching self-care and/or the care of the newborn to patients and families.
- Providing support and collaborating with other health care disciplines in the treatment and referrals of families at risk.
- Facilitating interaction between family members to promote bonding process.
- Promotes an environment free of hazards to reproduction, growth, and development, and wellness, and promotes recovery from illness.
- Assists patients and families to understand and cope with women's health issues and childbirth.
Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required.
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
- Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
- Holds the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification and renews NRP every two years.
- Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years.
- Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff.
- Communicates in a highly professional manner at all times.
- Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people.
