Controls Technician

Location: Asheville, NC
Pay: $30-$36/hour
Type: Direct Hire

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Controls Technician to support advanced manufacturing and automated production systems in a highly automated automotive manufacturing environment. This position serves as a key link between engineering and production, helping improve equipment reliability, automation, safety, quality, and process efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC, electrical, and automation-related issues on production equipment
  • Support automated assembly lines and manufacturing systems
  • Assist with PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming and modifications
  • Support installation, commissioning, and upgrades of automation equipment
  • Work with sensors, actuators, motors, vision systems, and industrial controls
  • Maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control documentation
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to implement process improvements
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and equipment reliability initiatives
  • Support new equipment launches and production line improvements
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental standards

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field required
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience supporting automation, controls, or production equipment
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC systems, preferably Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens
  • Familiarity with HMI and SCADA systems
  • Understanding of industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profinet
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Experience

  • FANUC, ABB, or KUKA robotics
  • Cognex or Keyence vision systems
  • Control panel design and electrical troubleshooting
  • Manufacturing automation and continuous improvement projects
