Job Description
Job Description
This role focuses on running long-run production on CNC Haas mill machines in a small to mid-sized precision machine shop. You will primarily work with aluminum and some precious metals, loading material into vises, operating CNC equipment, and ensuring parts meet quality and blueprint specifications. The position offers hands-on experience with modern machining technology and the opportunity to grow your skills in a supportive, trade-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Run long-run production on CNC Haas mill machines, ensuring consistent and efficient operation throughout each job.
- Load aluminum and precious metal workpieces into vises and securely fixture them prior to machining.
- Start and monitor CNC machine cycles, verify that programs run correctly, and intervene when needed to maintain proper machine performance.
- Work from blueprints on repeat jobs, interpret drawings accurately, and follow specifications to produce high-quality parts.
- Perform visual inspection of parts and use general quality equipment such as micrometers, pin gauges, and calipers to verify dimensions.
- Apply knowledge of GD&T to confirm that parts meet geometric and dimensional tolerances.
- Set up tooling on CNC mills, including selecting, installing, and adjusting tools to meet job requirements.
- Upload and verify CNC programs at the machine control, making minor adjustments as needed for optimal performance.
- Operate both vertical and horizontal mills as required, including older horizontal Haas mill equipment.
- Work with production quantities in a machine shop environment, maintaining throughput while upholding quality standards.
- Collaborate with team members in machining and medical device/assembly-related work when needed, supporting overall shop output.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to the overall cleanliness and safety of the shop.
- At least 2+ years of CNC mill machining experience.
- Hands-on experience operating CNC Haas mill machines in a production environment.
- Ability to set up tooling on CNC mills and upload programs into the machine control (Fanuc/Haas controls).
- Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, and other general quality inspection tools.
- Experience working from blueprints and strong blueprint reading skills.
- Knowledge of vertical and horizontal mill operation.
- Familiarity with GD&T and its application in machining and inspection.
- Experience in a machine shop environment focused on production machining.
- Ability to perform basic CNC operation, including starting cycles, monitoring runs, and checking parts.
- Comfort working with aluminum and other metals, including precious metals.
- Technical degree or diploma in Machine Tool Technology is a plus.
- Haas milling setup experience beyond basic operation is highly desirable.
- Exposure to Mastercam or similar CAM software for milling is beneficial.
- Experience with medical device machining or medical assembly work is an advantage.
- Background in aerospace or government/military-grade components is helpful.
- Previous experience in a smaller machine shop or job shop environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing precise, high-quality parts.
You will join a smaller aerospace-focused shop that offers a close-knit, supportive environment where people can learn and grow into a skilled trade. The organization emphasizes hands-on training and development, giving entry-level team members and experienced machinists alike the chance to expand their capabilities on modern CNC equipment. With a mix of government and military-grade projects, you will work on unique and interesting parts that keep the work engaging. The culture values teaching, mentorship, and providing opportunities for individuals to build a long-term career in machining.
Work Environment
The shop is a small, wide-open facility equipped with newer Haas mill machines and Citizen Swiss machines, as well as an older horizontal Haas mill used for this role. The environment maintains a cleanliness rating of approximately 7.5 out of 10, reflecting a generally tidy and organized workspace. You will work around aerospace and government-related projects, including military-grade components and other unique, precision parts. The setting is typical of a modern machine shop, with active production equipment, inspection tools, and a focus on safe, efficient operations.
