LEVEL/POSITION: CUSTODIAN 6.26
REPORTS TO: CUSTODIAL SERVICES
POSITION SUMMARY: Routine manual work performing housekeeping and custodial
assignments in school buildings and school board premises. An employee in this position
performs a variety of duties which may involve cleaning of buildings and grounds upkeep. Work
may also involve the moving, lifting, loading, unloading, and/or transport of objects or
equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
NOTE: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed

• Manifest a professional code of ethics and values at all times.
• Support activities designed to achieve priority goals identified through the District’s
strategic plan.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, apply sealer and finish to floors; clean and dust furniture; clean
and sanitize restrooms and replace toilet room supplies; dispose of trash and garbage;
clean glass, walls, ceilings, windows, woodwork, and light fixtures.
• Utilize various cleaning agents mixing according to label instructions and using in
accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions.
• Utilize various custodial and general maintenance equipment (i.e., mops, brooms,
buffers, pressure washers, and blowers).
• Assist in securing all rooms, buildings, gates, and facilities after daily use or servicing.
• Assist in keeping outside premises clean and in an orderly condition. Cut grass, trim
hedges, sweep, and clean walkways.
• Move furniture and equipment as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
M-Medium Work – Required to push, pull, or lift from 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally
and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to
move objects.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Balancing Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or
crouching on narrow, slippery, or moving surfaces.
Bending Lowering the body forward from the waist.
Climbing Ascending or descending stairs, ramps, etc., using feet and legs and/or
hands and arms.
Crawling Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Crouching Bending the body downward and forward by bending the leg and spine.
Grasping Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Hearing Acuity The ability to perceive speech and other environmental sounds at normal
volume levels.
Kneeling Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Atmospheric
Conditions
The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the
following conditions may affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes,
odors, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
Indoors/Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur
inside and outside.
Heat The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures are above 100
degrees for periods of more than one hour.
Noise The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker
to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
Vibration The worker is subject to vibration. There is exposure to oscillating
movement of the extremities and/or the whole body.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education – Graduation from a standard high school or equivalency diploma preferred.
