About the Role
ShareSTAFF is hiring a Board-Certified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to serve as Interim Medical Director for the inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit at a major academic safety-net health system in Denver, CO. As Interim Medical Director, you will provide unit stability and clinical leadership during a transition period, overseeing a multidisciplinary team that includes nursing, case management, therapists, and operational leadership. The role splits approximately 70 to 80 percent clinical work with 20 to 30 percent administrative responsibilities. Patients are high-acuity adolescents ages 12 to 17 with complex co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, treated in an EPIC EMR environment with full support staff in place. The schedule is Monday-Friday with a 9:00 AM start, full-time at 50 hours per week, and no call or weekend coverage is required. The role runs August 2 through November 1, 2026, with extensions likely.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as Interim Medical Director for the inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit, providing unit stability and clinical leadership during a transition period
  • Oversee a multidisciplinary team including nursing, case management, therapists, and operational leadership
  • Balance approximately 70 to 80 percent clinical work with 20 to 30 percent administrative responsibilities
  • Provide direct psychiatric care to high-acuity adolescents ages 12 to 17 with complex co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders
  • Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and clinical decisions in the EPIC EMR
  • Support unit-wide quality improvement, safety, and operational initiatives
  • Mentor and supervise clinical staff and contribute to unit structure during the leadership transition
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership on policy, program development, and care delivery
  • Maintain CME and continuing professional development as required by your state license and board certification
What You Bring - Required
  • Active, unrestricted Colorado medical license, OR Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) Letter of Qualification (LOQ accepted in lieu of Colorado license)
  • Board Certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Active DEA registration
  • Current BLS certification (AHA or equivalent)
  • Clean malpractice and licensure history
  • Medical director or formal clinical leadership experience (hard requirement; candidates without this experience will not be considered)
  • Inpatient child and adolescent psychiatry experience
  • Direct experience treating high-acuity adolescents ages 12-17 with complex co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders
  • Comfort with a combined clinical and administrative role split
  • Full-time commitment and availability (no part-time considered)
What You Bring - Preferred
  • Board Certification or fellowship training in Addiction Psychiatry (strong differentiator for this role)
  • Demonstrated EPIC EMR proficiency
  • Prior experience providing unit structure and stability during leadership transitions
  • Familiarity with adolescent dual-diagnosis or forensic psychiatric populations
  • Established Colorado professional network or prior Denver-area practice
  • Local Denver-area candidates preferred (significantly faster credentialing for the August 2, 2026 start)
