Pay: $34.14 – $44.92/hr
Location: SPJ, Auburn/Roseville
Position SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Director of Nursing (DON), and Registered Nurse(s), the Medical Assistant (MA) / Phlebotomist is responsible for performing routine clinical and support tasks within a correctional healthcare setting.
This role supports patient care delivery by assisting clinical staff with basic procedures, diagnostics, documentation, and patient support services in accordance with established policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
Position RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required
Current, unrestricted certification as a Medical Assistant in the state of employment ((Preferred))
Current CPR certification required
Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Correctional healthcare experience preferred
Health Services Administrator (HSA), Director of Nursing (DON), and Registered Nurse (RN)
Physical DemandsMust possess the physical and mental capacity to work in a correctional healthcare environment, which may include exposure to stressful situations and non-ideal conditions.
Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force and frequently push, pull, lift, or move objects, including assisting with patient mobility as needed. Position requires standing and walking for extended periods during the performance of duties.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFollow established clinical processes and systems in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, performance standards, and accreditation requirements
Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems relevant to the position with minimal supervision and assist with training as requested
Perform routine blood draws and phlebotomy procedures as applicable
Take and document vital signs, height, and weight
Assist with PPDs, EKGs, and other routine diagnostic procedures as assigned
Assist with examinations and treatments under the direction of licensed clinical staff
Report changes in patient condition promptly to appropriate clinical personnel
Assist patients with hygiene, ambulation, and dressing as needed
Communicate effectively with healthcare staff, custody staff, and patients at all levels of the organization
Demonstrate professional practice in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and clinical standards
Participate in continuing education and comply with NCCHC and other applicable standards
Demonstrate professionalism by maintaining objectivity, emotional control under pressure, integrity, and promoting a positive work environment
Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings as required for contract compliance
Escalate critical information that may impact patient care, safety, or operational effectiveness to appropriate leadership
On-site position within a correctional facility
Must be comfortable working in a secure, structured, and high-accountability healthcare environment
