A small critical access hospital in the beautiful rural northwest region of Alaska is looking for a Laboratory Information Specialist to work in their busy small-hospital laboratory. Free housing is being offered.


Salary Range:

$39.20 To $50.39 Hourly

Informatics Specialist $5K Bonus

Purpose of Position:


Manage all of the electronic health record and billing activities related to overseeing Laboratory Information System to include but not limited to set up, updating and training of Laboratory Module, Microbiology Module, and Blood Bank Module. Recommend and implement procedures to increase efficiency and revenue.

Essential Functions:


Work closely with the laboratorians and information systems staff to manage the day-to-day electronic health record operations

Resolve all billing rejections which occur either through our current processes involving all electronic systems

Provide support for instrumentation interfacing and connectivity

Demonstrate personal initiative and accountability while maintaining the department’s electronic health record for accuracy 

Assist management with the implementation, upgrades and on-going maintenance of the Laboratory Information System and integrated electronic health record 

Assume a leading role in the training of staff in the use of the Laboratory Information System

Travel to village clinics to implement and maintain laboratory instrumentation 

Build reports and provide data for internal and external laboratory customers as needed. 

Supports laboratory Quality Assurance efforts and procedures by assisting with and/or conducting laboratory audits of discrepancies in reporting, specimen issues, etc. 

Trains LIS/middleware users and provides ongoing LIS/middleware education and support. 

Assists Lab, Point of Care, and IT with managing users on laboratory related platforms. 

Ensure all LIS and final reports meet regulatory and accreditation requirements. 

Performs periodic and custom LIS validations to ensure ongoing accuracy in data transmittal to end user. 

Analyzes data and information systems inefficiencies, evaluates alternatives, and makes logical recommendations based on findings. 

Perform other duties as assigned
