Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor

Location: Louisville Downtown Metro Area, Kentucky
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM 12:00 PM

Job Summary

GetWell Recovery is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Use Counselor to provide counseling, recovery support, and case coordination services for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. The counselor will work closely with patients, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary teams to support recovery goals and promote long-term wellness.

The ideal candidate is empathetic, motivated, and experienced in addiction counseling, behavioral health services, and recovery-focused care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct substance use assessments and psychosocial evaluations.
  • Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Educate patients and families on substance use disorders, relapse prevention, and recovery resources.
  • Monitor patient progress and document treatment outcomes accurately.
  • Coordinate care with medical providers, behavioral health professionals, and community resources.
  • Assist patients with crisis intervention and coping strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with Kentucky regulations, HIPAA standards, and company policies.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and case reviews.
  • Support patients throughout all phases of recovery and treatment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field preferred.
  • CADC, TCADC, CSW, or other relevant Kentucky certification/licensure preferred.
  • Experience working in substance use treatment or behavioral health settings preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of recovery models, relapse prevention, and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with medication-assisted treatment (MAT) programs.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Trauma-informed care approach.
  • Familiarity with community recovery resources in Kentucky.
  • Ability to build rapport with diverse patient populations.
