1st Shift Inventory Clerk
Location: Shelby, NC
Pay Rate: $26.00 per hour
Shift: 1st Shift- Monday- Friday
7am-4pm/8am-5pm
Must be flexible with time


Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Inventory Clerk to oversee inventory control, receiving operations, and warehouse organization while supporting daily business operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring inventory accuracy, maintaining efficient warehouse processes, supervising receiving personnel, and supporting internal departments through effective inventory management and reporting.
The ideal candidate will have experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, ERP systems, and employee supervision. This individual must be highly organized, capable of multitasking, and committed to maintaining a safe, efficient, and accurate work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory Management & Control
  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels throughout the facility.
  • Ensure all inventory transactions are properly entered and maintained within the ERP system.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and reporting issues.
  • Generate inventory reports and reconcile physical inventory quantities with system records.
  • Conduct weekly cycle counts and oversee annual physical inventory counts.
  • Train employees on inventory procedures and counting processes.
  • Track inventory movements and investigate inventory-related concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions and provide feedback to team members as needed.
Receiving & Warehouse Operations
  • Supervise daily receiving operations and provide leadership to receiving personnel.
  • Train and support receiving employees to ensure compliance with company procedures.
  • Serve as backup for the Receiving Clerk during vacations, illnesses, or other absences.
  • Assist with unloading incoming shipments and verifying purchase orders.
  • Inspect incoming products for quality, accuracy, and damage.
  • Stock inventory into designated warehouse locations.
  • Make decisions regarding damaged freight, incorrect shipments, and product acceptance or refusal.
  • Process customer returns and coordinate vendor returns for defective merchandise.
  • Coordinate delivery schedules with incoming freight carriers when necessary.
  • Communicate with carriers including:
    • LTL Freight Carriers
    • FedEx
    • UPS
    • USPS
  • Ensure warehouse inventory is properly organized and accessible.
Warehouse Organization & Material Handling
  • Manage product placement and warehouse storage locations.
  • Maintain Warehouse #2 and organize overstock inventory until needed.
  • Ensure receiving and warehouse areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
  • Stack pallets and inventory properly to prevent accidents and product damage.
  • Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain designated areas for defective or damaged inventory.
Customer Orders & Internal Support
  • Create and complete job orders for customer-owned inventory.
  • Organize and coordinate assembly projects as needed.
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Client Services, and Program Materials departments to support customer orders.
  • Assist departments with locating materials and inventory needed to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Support inventory-related questions and provide guidance to coworkers.
Equipment & Facility Responsibilities
  • Unlock the facility and deactivate the alarm system each morning before employees arrive.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on warehouse equipment.
  • Coordinate vendor service calls and repairs when necessary.
  • Monitor warehouse equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Make occasional trips to the Post Office and local suppliers as needed.
  • Ensure all operational and safety guidelines are followed.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, warehouse efficiency, and departmental productivity.
  • Recommend process improvements to reduce costs and increase operational effectiveness.
  • Support management initiatives aimed at improving workflow and inventory control.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily activities of receiving personnel.
  • Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Monitor employee productivity and adherence to company procedures.
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a warehouse, distribution, inventory control, or logistics environment.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Experience with inventory management and ERP systems.
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Excel and inventory software.
  • Ability to create, update, and maintain spreadsheets and reports.
  • Forklift certification required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience leading and training employees.
  • Professional demeanor and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
  • Frequently use hands for handling inventory, equipment, and documentation.
  • Reach, bend, crouch, and move throughout warehouse and office environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely.
  • Ability to see clearly at both near and far distances.
Work Environment
This position works in both warehouse and office settings. The employee will regularly interact with warehouse personnel, inventory systems, carriers, and internal departments while supporting daily operations and inventory management activities.
