Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary:
Seeking a dependable and hardworking individual to join our Public Works team as a Laborer to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of municipal infrastructure. This position is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor tasks related to the gas, water and sewer systems, as well as street and groundskeeping, building maintenance, and general municipal upkeep.
Key Responsibilities:
Utility Operations:
- Install, maintain, and repair water, sewer and gas lines.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in gas, water, and sewer systems.
- Read and maintain water meters and utility maps.
- Respond to utility emergencies, including leaks and blockages.
Street Maintenance:
- Patch potholes and repair road surfaces using asphalt and other materials.
- Maintain signage, curbs, sidewalks, and drainage systems.
· Mow lawns, trim edges, and maintain public green spaces. Operate lawn care equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
· Assist with the collection and disposal of yard waste, litter, and other debris from public areas.
Heavy Equipment Operation:
- Safely operate backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, and other heavy machinery.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment.
General Maintenance:
- Assist with upkeep of public buildings, parks, and facilities.
- Perform landscaping, groundskeeping, and janitorial tasks.
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints courteously and professionally.
Technology & Reporting:
- Use computers and mobile devices for work orders, reporting, and communication.
- Maintain digital records of maintenance activities and inspections.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in public works or utility maintenance.
- Valid Louisiana driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
