Position Summary:

Seeking a dependable and hardworking individual to join our Public Works team as a Laborer to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of municipal infrastructure.  This position is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor tasks related to the gas, water and sewer systems, as well as street and groundskeeping, building maintenance, and general municipal upkeep.

Key Responsibilities:

Utility Operations:

• Install, maintain, and repair water, sewer and gas lines.
• Diagnose and resolve issues in gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Read and maintain water meters and utility maps.
• Respond to utility emergencies, including leaks and blockages.

Street Maintenance:

• Patch potholes and repair road surfaces using asphalt and other materials.
• Maintain signage, curbs, sidewalks, and drainage systems.

·       Mow lawns, trim edges, and maintain public green spaces.  Operate lawn care equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.

·       Assist with the collection and disposal of yard waste, litter, and other debris from public areas.

Heavy Equipment Operation:

• Safely operate backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, and other heavy machinery.
• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment.

General Maintenance:

• Assist with upkeep of public buildings, parks, and facilities.
• Perform landscaping, groundskeeping, and janitorial tasks.
• Respond to public inquiries and complaints courteously and professionally.

Technology & Reporting:

• Use computers and mobile devices for work orders, reporting, and communication.
• Maintain digital records of maintenance activities and inspections.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in public works or utility maintenance.
• Valid Louisiana driver’s license.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
