Job Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, developing, and directing speech and language therapy treatment plans, in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The SLP provides therapy according to the treatment plan and documents, monitors, and adjusts therapy as required. The SLP will provide support and therapeutic services to students with diverse needs within the general education classroom as prescribed by Wraparound Experts and the principal of the school. This role is essential in helping our students achieve their maximum potential in academic, social, and daily living activities.

Essential components of this position are listed below; however, these are not exhaustive and subject to change at the discretion of Wraparound Experts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Speech & Language Pathology from an accredited university
  • Valid Ohio Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology Speech-Language Pathology License or Conditional License
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education Pupil Services License
  • Strong relationship building, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills with school/campus staff, parents, and internal/external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence
  • Analytical ability to conduct complex fact-finding investigations and develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns in a timely manner
  • Ability to preserve the confidentiality of student information and records
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret assessment results and use the results to develop treatment/intervention plans and classroom strategies that are appropriate to the educational goals of the student (and within the student’s least restrictive environment)

Responsibilities

  • Conducts speech/language assessments for each area of suspected speech/language impairment
  • Participates in school building IEP/Intervention teams
  • Assists in the identification of students suspected of having a speech-language disability
  • Completes hearing screenings for all students in grades K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 11 and students currently on a service plan and any new students who are referred for evaluations.
  • Provide therapeutic intervention and assessment to students individually, in small groups or classroom-based in accordance with: i. The student’s Service Plan or Intervention Plan ii. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (“IDEA”) (as applicable) iii. The Ohio Standards for Schools Serving Students with Disabilities (“Ohio Standards”) iv. The Guidelines for Providing Services to Children with Disabilities Parentally Placed in Ohio Chartered Nonpublic School (the “Guidelines”) v. The Laws and Regulations Governing the Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology vi. The American Speech/Language Hearing Association Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice vii. Current ethical and professional standards of practice.
  • Completes, maintains and disseminates all appropriate forms including parent permission forms, record release forms, Communicative Status Reports, and Speech-Language Evaluation Team Reports
  • Complies with State Standards, District Policies, and ASHA Guidelines in the processes of referral, screening, and placement: Follows district procedures for screening, pre-intervention and/or referring students needing a speech/language evaluation
  • Uses a variety of approaches and materials to address the IEP that are compatible with the students age, interest, and abilities.
