Job Description

The Concrete Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all field activities related to concrete construction projects. This position ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and company policies. The Superintendent serves as the primary field leader and coordinates labor, equipment, subcontractors, and material deliveries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management & Field Operations

  • Oversee all phases of concrete construction, including site preparation, layout, formwork, reinforcing steel, embeds, concrete placement, finishing, and curing.
  • Develop and manage daily and weekly work plans to maintain project schedules.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity.
  • Conduct pre-construction and daily planning meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Review project plans, specifications, submittals, and schedules to ensure compliance.
  • Identify and resolve field issues before they impact schedule or budget.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, production logs, and project documentation.

Safety Management

  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all employees and subcontractors follow site-specific safety requirements.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized jobsite.

Quality Control

  • Verify all work complies with contract documents, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate inspections and testing requirements.
  • Monitor concrete placement, finishing, curing, and protection procedures.
  • Ensure proper installation of reinforcing steel, embeds, anchor bolts, and formwork.
  • Identify deficiencies and oversee corrective measures.

Crew Leadership

  • Supervise field personnel including foremen, laborers, operators, finishers, and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching and training.
  • Assist with workforce planning and hiring recommendations.
  • Foster teamwork and maintain positive working relationships.

Client & Contractor Coordination

  • Serve as the primary field contact for owners, general contractors, inspectors, and engineers.
  • Attend project meetings and provide progress updates.
  • Coordinate deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor activities.
  • Assist Project Managers with change orders, schedule updates, and cost control.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of concrete construction experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory or superintendent experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Strong understanding of concrete forming systems, reinforcing steel, placement methods, and finishing techniques.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification (preferred)
  • Competent Person Training

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, climb, kneel, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work extended hours as project demands require.
