Job Description
Certified Medical Assistant
Location: Austin, Texas
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:45am-5:00pm - Will be required to work 1 late shit per week 11:45am-8p
Pay: $21-22/hour
Overview
Responsibilities
Greet patients and escort them to assigned examination rooms
Document appropriate history, vital signs, and chief complaint for visit type
Prepare patients for appropriate visit type
Assist the provider during treatment and/or procedures
Administer and store medications according to clinic policy
Make referrals as appropriate and necessary, as per procedure
Collect lab specimens and escort patients to the lab
Administer immunizations and injections as appropriate and requested
Identify opportunities to improve workflow, work processes, and patient care, and work cooperatively to implement quality improvements
Adhere to HIPAA guidelines
Maintain proper inventory and stock exam/treatment rooms with supplies, instruments, and equipment
Follow risk management protocols in the exam room environment
Clean and disinfect non-consumable instruments according to established procedures
Maintain order and cleanliness of the nursing station, chart areas, utility rooms, and examination rooms
Assist in locating patient referral resources and in follow-up paperwork
Ensure all in-house labs are entered into the EMR
Answer the exam area telephone when available and route calls to appropriate personnel
Retrieve charts for call back as needed and notify patients of lab results following PCC procedures
Required Skills
MA certification from an accredited school
Successful completion of an MA externship
Demonstrated knowledge of protocols for medical assistants related to patient care, provider assistance, exam rooms, and records maintenance
Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse population
Strong oral and written communication skills
Patient, flexible, and able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Self-starter who can ramp up quickly with minimal supervision
Additional Skills & Requirements
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
Tech savvy and able to utilize a tablet to assist with translation
Epic experience preferred
Team player mindset
Minimum experience: 1–2 years
Schedule includes Monday–Friday hours of 7:45am–5pm, plus occasional evening coverage on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 11:45am–8pm (one late shift per week)
Training period: 1–2 weeks
