Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production and building equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment. The Electrical Maintenance Technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of machinery and facility systems, with an emphasis on electrical diagnostics and repairs. The position requires strong hands-on skills, the ability to interpret electrical schematics and blueprints, and the flexibility to handle both electrical and mechanical tasks to keep production running efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and repair maintenance on all production equipment and building systems to ensure reliable and safe operation.
- Prioritize maintenance activities to support production, ensuring that production machinery uptime takes precedence over preventive maintenance, work orders, and projects.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on industrial equipment, including diagnosing problems with prox switches, limit switches, relay switches, circuits, and high- and low-voltage systems.
- Work with HVAC systems, AC and DC electric motors, and various types of motor controls and drives to perform troubleshooting, repairs, and replacements as needed.
- Use electrical schematics and blueprints to diagnose issues accurately and perform safe and effective repairs.
- Support equipment technicians by troubleshooting electrical problems over the phone and providing clear technical guidance.
- Conduct daily and midshift checks, as well as preventive maintenance, on weighing systems, compressors, compactors, chillers, and HVAC systems.
- Maintain and repair a range of production machinery, including 6-station and 12-station presses, color presses, color dye systems, rotary stamp equipment, slitter/cutter machines, folding machines, roll presses, webber machines, and flexographic presses.
- Perform mechanical repairs on equipment, including working with hydraulics, pneumatics, changing out webbing, dyes, and related mechanical components.
- Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to receive, document, and complete daily passdowns and work orders.
- Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
- Identify when issues involve PLC-controlled systems and apply basic PLC logic knowledge to determine if a problem is PLC-related, without editing or modifying ladder logic or programming.
- Install, wire, and maintain electrical panels, including working with 3-phase power, low-voltage and high-voltage circuits, and industrial wiring.
- Support installation, setup, and modification of industrial and packaging machines as needed.
- Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to coordinate repairs and minimize disruption to operations.
- Follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working around loud machinery, electrical systems, and moving equipment.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment strongly preferred.
- Hands-on electrical experience with 3-phase power systems and industrial electrical maintenance.
- Basic PLC troubleshooting knowledge, including the ability to identify when an issue is PLC-related, without editing ladder logic or programming.
- Experience working with variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints accurately.
- Proficiency in preventive and predictive maintenance practices in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with panel wiring and electrical wiring in industrial environments.
- Skill in troubleshooting electronics, performing repairs, and conducting diagnostic testing on industrial equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience in hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems, AC and DC motors, and various motor controls and drives.
- Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with high-speed packaging experience considered ideal.
- Ability to work with conveyors, packaging machines, and other industrial production equipment.
- Comfort using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders and daily passdowns.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently in a production-focused environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in maintenance within any manufacturing industry will be considered.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley equipment and controls.
- Experience with industrial maintenance and electrical maintenance in production facilities.
- Exposure to flexographic or multi-color presses and related printing or converting equipment is a plus.
- Experience working with conveyors, roll presses, slitter/cutter machines, folding machines, and similar equipment.
- Strong mechanical inclination and comfort working with tools, machinery, and industrial systems.
- Ability to support installation and modification of industrial equipment and packaging machines.
- Comfort communicating technical information to equipment technicians and other team members, including over the phone.
- Willingness to work extended hours during busy seasons and adapt to changing schedules based on production needs.
