Tool Die Maker

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to join our team in San Diego. This role is responsible for planning, developing, and executing precision tooling solutions that support high-quality manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC machining, tool fabrication, and blueprint interpretation, with the ability to troubleshoot complex tooling challenges and collaborate cross-functionally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and execute the sequence of operations to design and develop tooling such as dies (blanking, piercing, forming), jigs, fixtures, gauges, and templates
• Interpret tool design prints, blueprints, and engineering specifications, filling in design gaps when necessary
• Select appropriate materials, tooling methods, and equipment for fabrication and assembly
• Develop and modify layouts, sketches, and machining details for tooling components
• Fabricate, assemble, rework, and repair tooling and related assemblies
• Set up and operate CNC and manual machine tools to produce precision components
• Partner with engineering, tool design, and production teams to support tooling development and first-piece inspections
• Perform root cause corrective action (RCCA) analysis to identify tooling issues and implement solutions
• Recommend design improvements, material substitutions, and process enhancements to increase efficiency
• Act as a liaison between Manufacturing, Engineering, and Tool Design to resolve complex technical issues
• Monitor tooling performance and troubleshoot issues during production
• Maintain accurate documentation, work orders, and tooling records

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Previous Tool & Die Maker experience
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience setting up and operating CNC machines
• Hands-on experience with manual machining (lathe, mill, surface grinding)
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including GD&T or ASME Y14.5
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.)
• Strong understanding of shop math, including trigonometry
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex tooling issues
• Willingness to work 1st or 2nd shift

Preferred:

• Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing environments
• Familiarity with CAD software
• Experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies
