We are partnering with a well-known organization in the Kansas City area to identify a Financial Reporting Manager for a contract engagement of at least six months, with strong potential for extension or conversion to a permanent role. This position is open due to the current incumbent moving into a full-time role within the company, creating an immediate need for an experienced leader who can step in and make an impact. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of financial reporting expertise and technical accounting knowledge, along with a proven ability to lead teams and operate in a high-level leadership capacity.
Qualified candidates will have 15+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, a Bachelor’s degree (required) with a Master’s and/or CPA preferred, and a background in financial reporting and team management. Experience within engineering, construction, or similar industries is highly preferred, along with prior public accounting experience, ideally Big 4. The role offers a target pay rate of $70–$90/hour, depending on experience, along with contract benefits including holiday pay and 10 days of PTO accrual annually, making it a strong opportunity for a seasoned professional seeking both immediate impact and potential long-term growth.
Job Description
The Financial Reporting Manager will lead the financial reporting team within the Corporate Accounting/Finance department. This role is pivotal in managing the accounting of marketing and administrative expenses, interfacing between the General Ledger and Accounts Payable subledger, overseeing corporate investments, intercompany eliminations, and corporate cost allocations. The manager is responsible for the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Review business transactions to ensure they are appropriately reflected in the general ledger.
- Research, develop, and implement accounting procedures and processes in compliance with GAAP requirements.
- Advise employees on GAAP requirements and provide necessary guidance.
- Prepare and present analytical evaluations over account fluctuations monthly and annually.
- Evaluate new disclosure requirements for annual financial reports.
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, overhead analyses, and AP corrections prepared by the team.
- Ensure timely and accurate deliverables for year-end financial statement audits.
- Manage the financial reporting team's involvement in system testing for patches and upgrades.
- Supervise staff, ensuring adequate coverage for critical tasks, provide training, and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Respond to accountants' inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Serve as a technical advisor, offering senior-level guidance on various issues.
- Prepare ad hoc reports for Accounting or Division Executive Management.
- Interpret and establish organizational policies, procedures, and strategic goals.
- Support and assist in developing the Department business plan.
- Determine departmental objectives, organize projects, and develop standards and guidelines.
- Attend project meetings as requested.
- Develop and implement departmental tools and workflows to enhance efficiency.
Essential Skills
- Expertise in financial reporting, accounting, and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in month-end processes and reconciliation.
- Strong knowledge of the general ledger and GAAP.
- Public accounting and audit experience.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 8+ years of accounting experience.
- CPA strongly preferred with public accounting experience.
This is a Contract position based out of Kansas City, MO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00/hr.
