Job Description
This CNC Machinist role focuses on setting up, operating, and editing programs on various CNC machines, including boring mills and 3- and 5-axis mills and lathes. You will produce precision components for automotive, aerospace, and medical applications, working to tight tolerances and performing detailed quality checks. The position requires strong CNC setup skills, the ability to edit programs at the machine, and proficiency with Fanuc controls and precision measuring tools.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate a variety of CNC machines, including boring mills, standard 3-axis and 5-axis mills, and lathes, based on production needs.
- Perform complete CNC setups, including installing and changing out tools as necessary for each job.
- Secure and position metal workpieces correctly and run production parts according to specifications.
- Machine parts for automotive, aerospace, and medical industry applications while maintaining tight tolerances.
- Edit and adjust CNC programs at the machine to ensure optimal performance and part quality.
- Select proper tooling for each job and verify that tools are in good condition and correctly installed.
- Understand and operate CNC controls, particularly Fanuc, to load, run, and adjust programs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
- Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to perform in-process and final quality checks on completed parts.
- Zero out X, Y, and Z axes before starting new jobs to ensure accurate machine setup.
- Perform tool touch-offs and set proper tooling height from the X, Y, and Z axes for each tool used.
- Monitor machine operations, identify issues, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
- Work safely around large equipment, including overhead cranes and material handling equipment, following all shop safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area within a busy machine shop environment.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of experience setting up and editing programs on a boring mill or 3- or 5-axis CNC mill.
- Proven CNC machinist experience in a production machine shop environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with CNC setup, including tooling changes and workholding.
- Ability to perform programming edits using Vizi, WorkNC, or Mastercam.
- Proficiency with Fanuc controls or other comparable CNC control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers for quality inspection.
- Ability to zero out X, Y, and Z axes and perform accurate tool touch-offs.
- Experience operating horizontal boring mills and horizontal CNC machines.
- Solid understanding of machining processes, including milling and boring operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience machining components for automotive, aerospace, or medical industries.
- Familiarity with VISI or similar CAD/CAM-related tools.
- Comfort working with large equipment and heavy parts using overhead cranes and other material-handling devices.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and suggest improvements to programs or setups.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision parts.

Work Environment
This is a night shift position, working Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Initial training takes place on first shift, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for up to approximately three months or until you are fully comfortable with the processes. The role is based in a traditional machine shop environment with grease, dirt, and large industrial equipment. You will work around CNC mills, lathes, boring mills, and horizontal CNC machines, as well as overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment. The environment is hands-on and production-focused, with an expectation of appropriate industrial work attire suitable for a machining and heavy-equipment setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
