Job Title: Diesel Fleet Mechanic
Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining and repairing a fleet of diesel vehicles and heavy-duty equipment across two locations in Victoria, TX and Hallettsville, TX. You will perform comprehensive fleet maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic and air brake systems, emissions systems, forklifts, and other heavy-duty equipment. The position requires regular travel between the two sites each week and the ability to work independently under limited supervision while following preventative maintenance programs and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fleet maintenance on diesel vehicles and heavy-duty equipment across two locations in Victoria, TX and Hallettsville, TX, typically working two days at one site and three days at the other each week.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, including class 6–8 vehicles, using diagnostic platforms and tools provided.
  • Inspect, service, and repair hydraulic and air brake systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform after-treatment and emissions system repairs on diesel vehicles, following manufacturer specifications and standards.
  • Use diagnostic platforms such as Noregon, Snap-on, Nexiq, Altel or similar systems to identify issues, interpret diagnostic trouble codes, and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Remove and replace mounted wheels and torque them to the correct specifications.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance activities, including scheduled oil changes, lubrication, inspections, and documentation of work completed.
  • Track vehicle mileage and usage hours to ensure maintenance schedules are followed and updated accurately.
  • Manage parts and inventory by identifying required components, tracking usage, and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Use shop tools and equipment such as engine hoists, welding equipment, tire changers, and small tools to complete repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Repair and maintain forklifts and related equipment, including propane, electrical, battery, hydraulic systems, and pallet jacks.
  • Work with manufacturing standard manuals and OEM support tools to follow current standards and stay up to date with the latest technology and repair procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic modules and other electronic components as part of overall vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Work under limited supervision, performing tasks independently and making sound decisions when working remotely from a direct supervisor.
  • Use computers and digital devices such as iPads, desktop computers, handheld devices, and laptops to perform diagnostics, access manuals, and complete documentation.
  • Follow safety procedures and best practices while performing physical tasks such as lifting, pinching, bending, reaching, climbing, and handling objects.
  • Communicate repair findings, completed work, and any additional service needs clearly and accurately through written and digital reports.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of diesel fleet mechanic experience.
  • Experience or training involving hydraulic and air brake systems.
  • Experience performing after-treatment and emissions repairs on class 6–8 diesel vehicles.
  • Experience using diagnostic platforms such as Noregon, Snap-on, Nexiq, Altel or similar tools.
  • Experience removing and replacing mounted wheels and applying correct torque specifications.
  • Experience utilizing diagnostic troubleshooting codes to identify and resolve mechanical and electronic issues.
  • Experience with parts management and inventory controls.
  • Experience working under limited supervision and performing work independently, including working remotely from a direct supervisor.
  • Experience using shop tools such as engine hoists, welding equipment, tire-changing equipment, and small hand tools.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs, including following schedules for oil changes, documenting work completed, and tracking miles and usage hours.
  • Experience working with computers and digital devices such as iPads, desktop computers, handheld computers, and laptops for diagnostics and documentation.
  • Experience repairing forklifts, including propane, electrical, battery, hydraulic systems, and pallet jacks.
  • Experience working with manufacturing standard manuals and OEM support tools, and staying current with standards and technology.
  • Experience repairing heavy-duty equipment, including class 6, 7, and 8 vehicles.
  • Ability to provide and use your own basic hand tools for daily work.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, pinching, bending, reaching, climbing, and handling objects, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without accommodation.
  • At least 18 years of age.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with diesel engines, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Mechanical aptitude in areas such as electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and documenting all work in an organized manner.
  • Welding experience for repairs and fabrication as needed.
  • Strong familiarity with fleet maintenance practices and standards.
  • Comfort working with ergonomic and high-tech diagnostic equipment provided on site.
  • Ability to interpret and follow OEM procedures, service bulletins, and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Effective time management skills to handle responsibilities across multiple locations each week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $37.00/hr.
