Job Description
This full-time Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician role offers the opportunity to work in a growing telehealth-focused compounding pharmacy, supporting the preparation of premium-quality sterile and non-sterile medications for patients and clinics nationwide. You will apply advanced sterile technique, support strict adherence to USP 797/800 and Category 3 compliance requirements, and contribute to safe, accurate, and efficient production in a highly regulated, closed-door pharmacy environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily sterile IV compounding in accordance with USP 797/800 and Category 3 compliance requirements, ensuring accuracy, sterility, and safety in all preparations.
- Compound a variety of dosage forms, including capsules, nasal sprays, creams, troches, injectables, and peptides, following established formulas, procedures, and quality standards.
- Apply proper sterile gowning procedures, including donning of sterile garb and personal protective equipment, to maintain aseptic conditions in the cleanroom.
- Conduct sterile sampling and perform sterile fingertip glove testing to verify aseptic technique and support environmental and personnel monitoring programs.
- Complete sterile media fills and other process validation activities to confirm competency in aseptic processing and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Work with USP Guidelines 797/800, following all policies related to hazardous and non-hazardous compounding, beyond-use dating, documentation, and environmental controls.
- Support Category 3 compliance by adhering to extended stability practices, advanced environmental monitoring, and enhanced quality assurance procedures.
- Assist with production workflow by filling prescriptions at the bench, labeling, packaging, and organizing compounded products for distribution.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all compounded preparations, including batch records, logs, and quality control documentation.
- Collaborate with pharmacists and pharmacy leadership to ensure all compounded medications meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Follow all standard operating procedures for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining the sterile compounding areas and equipment.
- Participate in ongoing training and skill development, including compounding techniques, sterile procedures, and regulatory updates, as provided by pharmacy leadership.
- Pivot as needed to support phone coverage and basic non-patient-facing communication tasks while primarily focusing on bench and compounding duties.
- Contribute to a team-oriented environment by communicating clearly, supporting colleagues, and assisting with workflow to meet production and quality goals.
- Current registration as a pharmacy technician in the state of Florida.
- At least 1 year of experience as a sterile compounding pharmacy technician.
- Hands-on experience with daily sterile IV compounding in a pharmacy or hospital environment.
- Demonstrated experience working with USP Guidelines 797 and 800 and Category 3 compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in sterile gowning techniques and maintaining aseptic conditions in a cleanroom.
- Skill in sterile sampling and sterile fingertip glove testing to support personnel and environmental monitoring.
- Experience performing sterile media fills to validate aseptic technique.
- Ability to compound capsules, nasal sprays, creams, troches, injectables, and peptides according to established procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparation, labeling, and documentation of compounded medications.
- Ability to follow written standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines consistently.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills in a production-focused pharmacy environment.
- Willingness and ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, during standard daytime hours.
- Hospital-based sterile compounding experience is preferred.
- PTCB certification is preferred but not required.
- Experience in a telehealth or mail-order pharmacy setting is beneficial.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-oriented compounding environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Commitment to ongoing learning related to compounding techniques, regulatory changes, and quality standards.
This role is 100% onsite in a sterile compounding pharmacy environment located in Jupiter, Florida. You will work in a closed-door facility with no direct patient contact, focusing on production, quality, and compliance rather than front-counter or retail duties. The schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. The environment includes ISO-classified cleanrooms and controlled areas where sterile gowning, sterile sampling, fingertip glove testing, and media fills are standard practice. You will primarily work at the bench compounding and filling prescriptions, and you may occasionally pivot to answering phones as needed. The pharmacy operates as part of a growing telehealth model, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, training, and professional development in sterile technique and compounding practices. Attire includes appropriate sterile garb and personal protective equipment as required for work in the cleanroom and compounding areas.
