At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

We are seeking a highly motivated engineer to lead the development and evolution of our software-defined radio (SDR) and space communications development kits. This role is responsible for delivering a seamless and powerful developer experience across our hardware development kits, board support packages (BSPs), firmware enablement tools, documentation, and source code distribution.

You will operate at the intersection of hardware, embedded software, product design, and customer enablement, ensuring our platforms are robust, intuitive, and ready for mission-critical applications.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and maintain board support packages (BSPs) for customer firmware development
  • Architect and manage source code distribution strategy (versioning, access control, packaging, licensing)
  • Design intuitive workflows for customer firmware bring-up, integration, and validation
  • Develop and maintain example projects, reference designs, and integration guides
  • Lead documentation strategy including user guides, API references, release notes, and onboarding materials
  • Collaborate with hardware, FPGA, embedded, and applications engineering teams to ensure cohesive platform delivery
  • Gather customer feedback and translate it into actionable product improvements
  • Drive improvements in usability, tooling, and automation
  • Ensure reproducibility, maintainability, and quality across releases
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded systems or FPGA-based platforms
  • Strong experience with board support packages (BSPs), embedded Linux, or RTOS environments
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and familiarity with firmware development workflows
  • Experience with version control systems (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and source code release management
  • Strong understanding of hardware/software interfaces in FPGA or SDR systems
  • Ability to think from the customer’s perspective and design intuitive engineering workflows
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Direct experience with SDR, RF systems, or space communications hardware
  • Proven track record designing SDKs or developer platforms
  • Familiarity with Yocto, Buildroot, or similar embedded Linux build systems
  • Experience writing technical documentation for external customers
  • Experience supporting external engineering teams or customers
  • Knowledge of export control and secure code distribution practices
