Job Title: R&D technician – Materials / Polymer Testing
Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on R&D Technician to support materials and polymer testing in a laboratory environment. This role is ideal for candidates with experience working with polyurethane systems, polyols, isocyanates, or other hazardous chemicals. The technician will perform analytical testing, support product development activities, and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on laboratory work including sample preparation, testing, and data collection
- Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation such as GPC, FTIR, and density measurement tools
- Conduct mechanical testing using equipment such as Instron systems
- Support polymer characterization and thermal analysis activities
- Execute wet chemistry procedures, including handling catalysts and additives
- Work with small-scale lab reactors for formulation and testing
- Document results clearly and accurately in lab systems and reports
- Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists, lab technicians, and customers
- Follow all safety protocols when working with hazardous chemicals
Required Qualifications:
- Hands-on lab technician experience, preferably in polyurethane, polyols, isocyanates, or related materials
- Experience with analytical instruments (GPC, FTIR, density measurement tools)
- Exposure to mechanical testing and polymer/material characterization techniques
- Strong understanding of wet chemistry and laboratory best practices
- Experience with sample preparation and laboratory-scale reactions
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact across technical teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- STEM degree (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science, or related field)
- Relevant lab coursework accepted as hands-on experience
- Equivalent industry experience may substitute for degree if highly relevant and consistent
- Exposure to thermal analysis equipment
- Mechanical aptitude or basic electrical troubleshooting experience
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Demonstrated hands-on lab experience in materials, polymers, or plastics testing
- Comfortable working with hazardous chemicals in a lab setting
- Strong interest in materials science and product development
- Clear communicator who can collaborate effectively across teams
- Detail-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
Work Schedule & Environment:
- Monday–Friday, standard 5x8 schedule during onboarding and training
- Fully onsite, lab-based role
- Hands-on work environment (not remote or hybrid)
