  • Assesses needs of patients based on history, observation, physical examination, and diagnostic data analysis.
  • Plans individualized nursing care to meet holistic age-specific needs of patients.
  • Provides appropriate nursing interventions consistent with the Plan of Care and standards of practice, incorporating Physician's prescribed medical plans of care.
  • Demonstrates competency in McLeod Health Nursing Competencies.
  • Utilizes appropriate health and safety equipment to protect patients and staff.
  • Performs Patient Safety Initiatives including Patient Identification, Effective Communication, Labeled Specimens, Clinical Alarms, Healthcare Related Infections, and Universal Protocol.
  • Carries out Physician’s Orders including Illegibility Expectations, Telephone/Verbal Orders, Acknowledging Orders, Reviewing Standing Orders and Order Sets, Scanning to Pharmacy, and Review of ED Record.
  • Conducts Nursing Handoff in Care/Bedside Report including Document review, patient handoff, and Hemodialysis consent and handoff.
  • Completes Procedural Paperwork such as Consent form, Rite Site Form/Procedure, Pre-Procedure Checklist, Time out, Post Procedural Care & Documentation, and emphasizes pre/post op care and education.
  • Maintains Patient Privacy with Patient Record/Information including HIPAA compliance, Security of medical records, Patient Safety, Plan-of-Care, Education Assessment, and RN versus LPN Nursing Responsibilities.
  • Reconciles and administers patient medication according to policies and procedures.
  • Administers blood and blood products according to policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes process improvement methods.
  • Performs Code Management including Crash Cart, Rapid Response, and End of Life care.
  • Cares for patients with unit specific needs including moderate sedation, point of care testing, contrast injector, sheath removal, operation of patient equipment in procedure suite, operation of Physiological Monitoring System, and procedural aseptic scrubbing and technique.
    Job Requirements
  • Active nursing license verified through state-specific registry and Nursys within 30 days of start.
  • Completion of McLeod Skills Checklist prior to start and updated annually.
  • Proof of immunizations or titers for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella with lab printouts; no declinations accepted.
  • Fit Test required within a year of start for all travelers (optional).
  • Influenza vaccine required September through April with possible medical/religious exemptions.
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) testing with specific timing requirements.
  • Annual negative PPD or TB questionnaire if applicable.
  • Negative chest X-Ray if positive PPD, completed within 90 days of start.
  • 10 panel drug screening completed within 30 days of start; rapid drug screen not accepted.
  • Valid driver's license and Social Security Card required.
  • Criminal background check including multiple searches completed within 60 days of start and updated annually.
  • Employment verification for 5 years.
  • Completion of McLeod Confirmation of Assignment form.
