Job Description

Direct Counsel is seeking a Post-Settlement / Transactional Associate to join a rapidly growing plaintiff-side employment law practice. This unique opportunity is ideal for an attorney who enjoys the transactional and procedural side of complex litigation and wants to play a critical role in managing class action settlements from approval through administration.

The successful candidate will work closely with litigation teams, settlement administrators, and the courts to ensure that class action settlements are executed efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with applicable legal requirements.

ResponsibilitiesSettlement Administration & Oversight
  • Manage the legal aspects of class action settlements from preliminary approval through final distribution
  • Prepare motions and supporting documents for court approval of class action settlements
  • Coordinate with settlement administrators to ensure timely and accurate administration of settlements
  • Monitor settlement implementation and ensure compliance with court orders and settlement terms
  • Address issues arising during the settlement administration process
Contract Drafting & Negotiation
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and revise settlement agreements and related transactional documents
  • Analyze settlement provisions and identify potential legal or procedural concerns
  • Collaborate with litigation teams to structure settlements that achieve client objectives while minimizing risk
Document Preparation
  • Draft and revise class notices, claim forms, settlement communications, and related materials
  • Ensure all settlement-related documents comply with applicable legal requirements and court directives
  • Review administrator reports, declarations, and supporting documentation for accuracy
Compliance & Quality Control
  • Oversee settlement administrators and vendors to ensure compliance with court-approved procedures
  • Track deadlines, filings, and settlement milestones
  • Maintain organized records and documentation throughout the settlement process
  • Provide updates regarding settlement progress and compliance issues
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active California Bar membership in good standing
  • 2+ years of employment law experience
  • Experience handling post-settlement matters, settlement administration, or related transactional work preferred
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Experience with class action settlements preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Compensation & Benefits
