The Licensed Supervising Social Worker plays a central role in maintaining the Safe Horizon Counseling Center (SHCC) as the first New York State-licensed outpatient mental health clinic to specialize exclusively in the evidence-based treatment of traumatized survivors of all ages who have experienced interpersonal violence. SHCC also functions as a resource to the agency with regard to trauma-focused treatment for survivors of crime. The Licensed Supervising Social Worker provides weekly supervision and training to a maximum of 7 staff therapists as well as social work and mental health counseling interns. Supervision includes providing weekly support to our treatment staff in reaching administrative as well as clinical productivity goals. This includes careful review of therapist documentation to ensure compliance with all city, state, and federal regulations as well as Safe Horizon productivity and practice requirements. In addition to providing staff with clinical and administrative supervision, the Licensed Supervising Social Worker assists in the development and implementation of the SHCC in-house training program. This includes engaging all staff (treatment staff as well as administrative staff) at SHCC in the design and implementation of a training calendar and curriculum that integrates all of the knowledge, skills and values necessary for new staff to learn in order to effectively serve our clients at SHCC. This work includes engaging the expertise of external and in-house experts on the trauma of racism as well as interpersonal violence, evidence-based treatment, administration and legal and regulatory compliance. The Licensed Supervising Social Worker also provides licensed trauma-focused treatment to a caseload of 12 individuals and families. The Licensed Supervising Social Worker functions as part of the clinic’s leadership through the facilitation of various SHCC subcommittees and workgroups and represents SHCC through participation in agency-wide subcommittees and workgroups when necessary.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides individual supervision to a maximum of 7 staff therapists and clinical interns in the array of evidence-based, trauma-focused treatments implemented at the Counseling Center
  • Engages supervisees in strategies such as rescheduling to achieve the minimum weekly productivity standard (Full-Time Supervisees = a caseload of 29 with 22 kept visits per week & Percentage Full-Time Therapists = a caseload of 16 with 12 weekly kept visits)
  • Supports supervisees to complete all required documentation on time and in full compliance with all city, state, federal and other laws and regulations (Ex: progress notes, psychosocial assessments, and treatment plans)
  • Provides individual and family trauma-focused treatment to a caseload of 12 clients (with an expectation of at least 10 kept sessions with clients each week) to further develop and maintain proficiency in the clinic’s evidence-based treatments
  • Partners with the Clinical Director each week to develop and deliver weekly treatment-specific group supervision
  • Takes the lead on assembling and posting an SHCC training calendar that is directed by the Clinical Director.
  • Is responsible for creating training curricula (slides, handouts, exercises, evaluations) that integrates interpersonal violence framework with a racism trauma framework.
  • Creates and maintains a Teams SHCC Training Library of training materials and resources under the direction of the Clinical Director
  • Under the direction of the Clinical Director, assembles and maintains a new staff (employees, interns, volunteers) onboarding guide that includes all mandatory Safe Horizon trainings as well as SHCC-specific trainings
  • Assists with recruitment for SHCC therapist positions including the posting and screening of resumes
  • Is a weekly contributing member of the Case Disposition and a regular contributing member of the Clinical Conference Team
  • Represents Safe Horizon and the Counseling Center through case coordination, clinical consultation or community presentations
  • Provides Supervisor On-Call coverage as needed

Secondary Job Functions:

  • To participate, occasionally, in agency initiatives consistent with the Licensed Supervising Social Worker’s particular areas of expertise

Supervisory Reports: Up to 7 therapists and/or graduate interns

Interacts with: Internal SH referral partners (CACs, Community Programs, etc.)

External referral partners (ACS, foster care agencies, etc.)

Required skills:

  • Ability to supervise and teach TFCBT, CPP, Seeking Safety
  • Knowledge of OMH, DOHMH, and HIPAA regulations with the ability to monitor 100% compliance
  • Superior assessment and crisis intervention skills (high risk assessment and intervention)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required (including written, verbal, presentation and clinical engagement skills)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Qualifications:

  • The preferred credential for this position is LCSW. However, candidates are encouraged to apply that have an LMSW and exceptional required skills (above) and qualifications (below):
  • One year of OMH clinic experience
  • One year of experience practicing TFCBT, CPP, Seeking Safety
  • SIFI Certification preferred

Hiring Range: $65,200 - $76,000
