Job Description

Job Description
Senior Interior Cut-and-Sew Process Engineer

Where: Troy, Michigan | Type: Open-ended contract | Pay: $50.00–$60.00/hour (based on proven work history) | Travel: 35–40%

Is this you?
  • Do you turn complex trim concepts into precise, digitized patterns ready for high-volume production?
  • Are Gerber cutting systems and Lectra AccuMark part of your everyday toolkit (with embroidery software exposure as a bonus)?
  • Can you place seams strategically, align them flawlessly, and dial in sewing parameters for repeatable quality?
  • Do you know adhesives, bonding materials, and application methods well enough to prevent delamination and wrinkles before they start?
  • Have you wrapped interior parts in leather, TPO, PVC, and other synthetics—and fixed the tough spots others avoid?
  • Are you proactive about flagging risks in cutting, sewing, and wrapping so issues never reach the line?
What you will take on
  • Collaborate with Product and Manufacturing Engineering and corporate facilities to evolve patterns through development gates.
  • Support production builds, prototypes, and advanced projects; help resolve build and quality concerns with cross-functional partners.
  • Evaluate cut/sew/wrap criteria for feasibility; offer clear, actionable feedback to design and engineering teams.
  • Communicate status and recommendations with well-structured analyses and presentations (Excel/PowerPoint).
  • Champion flexible, open-minded process development and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and work style
  • Advanced pattern-making skills (required).
  • Comfortable working closely with internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Willing to work overtime, including weekends, as needs arise.
  • Follow direction while adding thoughtful feedback from the floor.
  • Expert in sewing operations and troubleshooting stitch-related defects.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and industrialize wrapping processes.
  • Regular travel to domestic and international plants; during peak launches, you can travel up to two weeks per month.
  • Engage in required corporate training, workshops, classes, and seminars.
  • Maintain 5S standards and an organized, safe workstation.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision; juggle shifting priorities with little notice.
  • Collaborative team contributor focused on shared outcomes.
  • Physically able to lift up to 35 lbs. repeatedly per shift and to kneel, reach, and maneuver materials as needed.
How the work feels

You will be the point person who bridges design ambition and manufacturing reality—making smart trade-offs, preventing rework, and ensuring that the final product looks right, fits right, and builds right the first time.

Compliance

A successful candidate will be subject to a background check and must receive satisfactory results of the same, as a condition of joining the team.

By submitting an application, you confirm your information is accurate and complete. Providing false or fraudulent details can lead to an offer being denied or revoked, or other corrective action, including termination after work has commenced.
