Job Title: Data Center Technician 2 - (S2) - Junior

Location: Boydton, VA

Duration: 06 months on W2 contract

About the Role

Our team is seeking a  Data Center Technician to support servers within customer data centers. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in hardware, IT operations, and cabling management, along with excellent analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a self-motivated, results-driven attitude.

Technicians will be expected to:

• Provide technical feedback and recommendations.
• Create and maintain technical and non-technical documentation.
• Contribute to the knowledge base through:
• KB Articles
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Lessons Learned documentation
• Interact with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead initiatives and drive tasks through completion.

Responsibilities

Data Center Operations

• Prepare, stage, set up, and perform hardware startup and shutdown activities for:
• Server racks
• Hard drives
• Network switches
• Other data center equipment
• Follow checklists, guides, standard operating procedures, and documented instructions.
• Assist and guide other technicians with challenging or complex tasks.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

• Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting using established procedures.
• Identify root causes and replace faulty components with minimal business disruption.
• Conduct post-execution quality checks.
• Verify:
• Grounding
• Staging
• Labeling
• Cabling
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, deployment standards, and Network Design Tasks (NDTs).
• Perform hardware decommissioning and refresh activities, including:
• Memory upgrades
• OS rebuilds
• Hardware replacements

Requirements

Technical Skills

• Basic server hardware knowledge with a strong understanding of:
• Component failures
• System failures
• Ability to assist in failure analysis and root cause investigations.
• Experience tracking server fleet health and identifying emerging failure trends.
• Understanding of Problem Management processes and customer SLA requirements.
• Experience using IPMI for diagnostics.
• Ability to administer software tools such as:
• Diagnostics
• Hardware tests
• Firmware (FW) updates

Operating Systems & Scripting

• Beginner-level Windows Server and WinPE administration.
• Familiarity with Linux PXE services (preferred).
• Basic scripting experience in:
• PowerShell
• Python
• Bash

Networking & Virtualization

• Network troubleshooting experience across:
• Layer 1
• Layer 2
• Layer 3
• Virtual machine setup and environment configuration experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience as a Data Center Technician.
• Associate degree in:
• Computer Science
• Computer Engineering
• Information Technology
• Or equivalent experience (preferred)

Certifications

• CompTIA A+ (or equivalent experience)
• CompTIA Server+ (or equivalent experience)
• CCENT (or equivalent experience)
• CCNA (preferred)
• MCP/MCSE (preferred)

Preferred Technical Skills

• Windows OS administration
• Scripting experience:
• PowerShell
• Python
• Bash

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• Ability to safely climb ladders when required.
• Ability to properly wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to:
• Handle and manipulate tools and equipment.
• Make precise machine adjustments.
• Bend and twist frequently.
