Pay Rate: $50.00 - $60.00 /hourly

Location: Turlock, CA

Schedule: Monday - Friday | 7:00am - 3:30pm

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, maintaining workplace safety standards, and promoting health initiatives within the organization. This role involves conducting risk assessments, developing safety programs, and fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship among employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Investigate workplace accidents and incidents by gathering witness statements, documenting conditions, photographing scenes, and preparing reports with recommendations for corrective action.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
• Conduct routine inspections and audits to identify unsafe conditions, hazardous behaviors, and compliance deficiencies.
• Remove employees from situations or areas determined to be immediately dangerous to life and health.
• Collect, analyze, and maintain safety and compliance data, preparing charts, reports, and summaries as needed.
• Perform site audits and monitor hazardous waste storage and disposal operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permit requirements, and contractual obligations.
• Evaluate hazardous waste management systems and recommend improvements to enhance safety and regulatory compliance.
• Inspect work areas to verify adherence to Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP) and established safe work practices.
• Research and interpret safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to effectively implement hazard prevention and mitigation measures.
• Observe employee work practices and safety conditions to identify risks, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Promote a strong safety culture by influencing and encouraging employees to comply with safety standards and procedures.
• Provide formal and informal safety training to supervisors and employees on accident prevention, hazard awareness, and safe work practices.
• Analyze accident and injury trends and develop strategies to eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree preferred in Occupational Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Hazardous Materials, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum of three years of experience in environmental health and safety, hazardous materials/waste management, safety compliance, or program development.
• Valid California driver’s license required.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable disclosure requirements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, management, and external agencies.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintaining electronic records and reports.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to workplace safety and hazardous materials.
• Ability to conduct accident investigations, job hazard analyses, and identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Knowledge of ergonomics and workplace injury prevention practices.
• Capable of responding to emergencies and making sound decisions affecting employee safety and regulatory compliance.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and maintain a professional work environment.
