Genie Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN OR - Operating Room for a travel nursing job in Carbondale, Illinois.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care throughout the perioperative process.
  • Prepare operating rooms with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and consent according to facility protocols.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection prevention standards.
  • Function in circulating and/or scrub roles based on assignment requirements and competency.
  • Monitor patients' physical and emotional status throughout surgical procedures.
  • Assist surgeons and anesthesia providers during operations.
  • Document patient care, medications, surgical counts, and procedural details accurately.
  • Participate in surgical time-outs and patient safety initiatives.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and unexpected intraoperative situations.
  • Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and postoperative care when applicable.
  • Adapt quickly to new facilities, policies, electronic medical record systems, and team environments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Illinois
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or required by facility.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Operating Room nursing experience.
  • Travel nursing experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in perioperative nursing practices.
  • Ability to circulate multiple surgical specialties, including orthopedic, general, vascular, robotic, neurosurgical, cardiovascular, or trauma cases, depending on facility needs.
  • Excellent critical thinking and clinical judgment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
