American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position at a Level 1 Trauma Center in the Chicago area, requiring OR scrub and circulate skills with Epic experience.
Details- Work setting is a 794-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital in Oak Lawn, IL, approximately 45 minutes from Chicago
- Unit is a 28-bed Surgery Room with 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular cases
- High-volume OR averaging 60–75 cases per day
- Patient population includes outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases (GSW, stabbings, kidney and heart transplants, donor cases, general, GYN, urology, robotic, vascular, ortho, neuro, open hearts, CABGs); approximately 20% pediatric
- Hybrid room handles 5–10 cases/day including TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions; adults only
- No liver or lung transplant cases; facility participates in Gifts of Hope donor cases
- Patient ratio is 1:1
- Charting system is Epic (experience required); additional equipment includes Alaris and Pyxis; hybrid/IR room uses Siemens equipment
- Shifts available: 4x10-hour or 5x8-hour day shifts; schedule is rotation-based with no self-scheduling
- OR operates 24/7/365; primary hours M–F 0730–2300 and weekends 0700–1700, with skeleton crew for trauma and urgent cases after hours
- Weekend rotation every 4th weekend (Saturday–Sunday)
- On-call required: 3 calls per 6-week schedule with a 30-minute response time; sleeping room available for on-call team members
- Holiday coverage is required
- No floating required
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2–3 years of acute care OR experience; CVOR RN candidates must have critical care experience and Level 1 trauma experience
- OR RN must be able to scrub and circulate; trauma experience at a Level 1 or Level 2 facility required
- Epic EMR experience required
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Provides perioperative nursing care across a broad range of surgical specialties including cardiovascular, transplant, trauma, robotic, and pediatric cases
- Robust support team includes charge nurses (no patient assignment M–F), anesthesiologist bedside monitoring, resource nurses, educators, service line reps, ANM, and an Epic super-user
- Orientation begins with educator and ANM introductions, system login access, online modules, and Epic training, followed by unit orientation on days 2–3
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
