Position Summary

The Patient Safety & Quality Specialist provides leadership and coordination for patient safety, infection prevention, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance activities across the hospital.

This position plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety while ensuring alignment with accreditation and regulatory standards. The Specialist supports organization-wide initiatives focused on reducing risk, improving outcomes, strengthening compliance, and advancing quality performance.

This role also serves as a co-leader of the hospital's Infection Prevention Program and supports ongoing readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys.

What You'll DoPatient Safety & Quality Leadership
  • Lead and support patient safety and quality improvement initiatives across departments
  • Analyze trends and identify opportunities to improve outcomes and reduce risk
  • Develop and monitor quality metrics, dashboards, and action plans
  • Support event review processes and facilitate corrective action planning
  • Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement
Infection Prevention & Regulatory Compliance
  • Co-coordinate the hospital-wide Infection Prevention Program
  • Support implementation and monitoring of the Infection Control Plan
  • Ensure compliance with IDPH, CMS, Joint Commission, and internal standards
  • Participate in regulatory survey preparation and response activities
  • Track and report infection prevention and quality performance data
Collaboration & Performance Improvement
  • Partner with clinical leaders to improve workflows and patient outcomes
  • Facilitate performance improvement projects using established methodologies
  • Support staff education related to quality, patient safety, and infection prevention
  • Maintain regulatory documentation and reporting requirements

QualificationsEducation

Required:

  • Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field

Preferred:

  • Master's degree
Licensure & Certifications

Required:

  • Active Illinois professional license (RN preferred but not required; licensed clinical professionals considered)
  • Obtain Associate – Infection Prevention and Control (A-IPC) certification within three years of hire
Experience

Required:

  • 3–5 years of experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, infection prevention, or risk management
  • Experience supporting regulatory surveys and accreditation readiness (Joint Commission, IDPH, CMS)
  • Strong understanding of performance improvement methodologies
  • Experience with quality reporting systems and healthcare data analysis
