JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

Regal Boats is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Electrical Expert to serve as the company's technical authority on vessel electrical systems. This role is responsible for overseeing the installation, testing, diagnostics, validation, and continuous improvement of electrical and electronic systems across multiple boat models. The ideal candidate possesses extensive knowledge of marine DC and AC electrical systems, networked electronics, digital switching, power management, and advanced troubleshooting techniques.

This individual will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and suppliers to ensure all electrical systems meet Regal's standards for safety, reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction while mentoring technicians and driving continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Serve as Regal's subject matter expert for all marine electrical and electronic systems throughout production.
  2. Lead advanced diagnostics, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation for complex electrical and electronic issues.
  3. Perform system-level testing, commissioning, calibration, and validation of DC, AC, and networked vessel systems.
  4. Verify proper installation and functionality of batteries, charging systems, shore power systems, inverters, generators, distribution panels, digital switching systems, and electronic controls.
  5. Troubleshoot CAN bus, NMEA 2000, Ethernet, and proprietary vessel communication networks.
  6. Support installation, integration, and validation of Garmin electronics, digital switching systems, joystick controls, gyro stabilizers, HVAC systems, audio systems, and other electronically controlled equipment.
  7. Review wiring schematics, harness drawings, electrical layouts, and system designs to ensure manufacturability, serviceability, and compliance.
  8. Partner with Engineering to identify and resolve design-related electrical issues.
  9. Collaborate with suppliers and technical representatives to investigate and resolve product performance concerns.
  10. Mentor and train electrical technicians on best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and quality standards.
  11. Develop and improve testing procedures, quality checks, and diagnostic processes.
  12. Maintain calibration and proper use of electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
  13. Support prototype builds, sea trials, product launches, and field issue investigations.
  14. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on electrical system reliability, quality, and customer experience.
  15. Ensure compliance with ABYC, NMMA, USCG, and applicable electrical safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  1. 5+ years of experience in marine electrical installation, diagnostics, commissioning, or manufacturing.
  2. Expert knowledge of marine DC and AC electrical systems.
  3. Extensive experience with marine electronics, power distribution systems, charging systems, and digital switching technologies.
  4. Strong understanding of NMEA 2000 networks, CAN bus systems, Ethernet-based marine networks, and electronic control systems.
  5. Advanced troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex electrical, electronic, and network-related issues.
  6. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, electrical layouts, and technical documentation.
  7. Proficiency with electrical testing equipment including multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and diagnostic software.
  8. Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  9. Demonstrated ability to mentor technicians and provide technical leadership.
  10. Commitment to safety, quality, and craftsmanship.
  11. Proficient in conversational English.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. ABYC Electrical Certification.
  2. NMEA Marine Electronics Installer Certification.
  3. Experience with Garmin Marine Electronics.
  4. Experience with CZone, EmpirBus, or other digital switching platforms.
  5. Familiarity with Volvo Vodia, Mercury G3, Yamaha YDIS, MasterAdjust, and LogicX diagnostic software.
  6. Experience in boat manufacturing, yacht production, or marine service environments.
  7. Associate's degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Marine Technology, or related field.
  8. Experience supporting sea trials, prototype development, and product validation testing.

Work Environment
Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature, reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to climb into and out of the boats using stairs. The employee must frequently be able to lift 50 pounds, work 10-hour days with most of the time being on their feet, and work overtime, whether planned or unplanned.
