Medical Director Pathology Dept
A hospital-based pathology practice is seeking a board-certified AP/CP pathologist to serve as medical director Medical Director within a comprehensive anatomic and clinical pathology department. The successful candidate will provide leadership in cytopathology and hematopathology while contributing to general surgical pathology coverage. This role combines administrative leadership, diagnostic expertise, laboratory oversight interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinician engagement in a robust hospital setting in Freehold, New Jersey
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Diagnostic Responsibilities
- Interpret and diagnoses:
- Interpret and diagnosis general surgical pathology
- Non-Gen Fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens, including rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE)
- Bone marrow aspirates, biopsies, flow cytometry, and peripheral blood smears
- Provide intraoperative frozen section consultation as needed
- Correlate pathology findings with clinical, radiologic, molecular, and laboratory data
- Communicate significant and critical diagnostic findings directly with hospital clinicians
Medical Director Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the laboratory policies, procedures and best practices
- Lead quality assurance
- Ensure compliance with:
- CAP
- CLIA
- Joint Commission
- State and federal regulatory standards
- Lead quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives
- Participate in laboratory accreditation inspections.
- Collaborate with hospital administration on strategic planning, budgeting, and service development
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Provide timely consultations and diagnostic guidance
- Participate in tumor boards.
- Work closely with and collaborate with:
- Surgery
- Oncology
- Radiology
Teaching & Leadership
- Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care
- Mentor pathology assistants, laboratory staff, residents, or fellows (if applicable)
- Contribute to continuing medical education and departmental educational activities
Qualifications
Required
- MD or DO degree
- Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
- Preferrred Fellowship training in:
- Cytopathology
- Hematopathology
- Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the state of New Jersey
Preferred
- Prior leadership or Medical Director experience
- Experience in hospital-based pathology practice
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
