Please visit our website to learn more about Emtech and our values atwww.emtechengineering.com

Our culture is not just about hard work--we are also about having fun, working together, and making a real difference. We are committed to creating a positive, accepting environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to grow.

Position Summary:

Emtech is building an AI business operating system that will let the company scale toward 1,000 people without growing administrative overhead at the same pace. The AI Systems Developer is the hands-on builder and owner of that system - designing and shipping its technical foundation, the autonomous background agents that take over repetitive work, and the internal web applications that extend Emtech's existing tools and give employees better information and process. This is a senior, build-focused role. You will translate solution concepts and demos into reliable, secure, production-grade systems - and keep them running and improving as the business evolves. You'll set technical direction in partnership with the IT Manager, collaborate with a strategic advisory partner, and share responsibility with IT for infrastructure and data security. A bias toward fast, AI-assisted iteration, balanced by the discipline to maintain what you build, defines success in this role. This position operates primarily out of the main business location and supports the full organization.

Our IT Philosophy

IT at Emtech exists to help everyone work more effectively. We build and steward scalable, secure systems and processes that support business growth, and we extend that same posture to AI.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Promotes and upholds the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Emtech, LLC in day-to-day activities.

Build and own the technical foundation of Emtech's AI operating system - a single, integrated data and knowledge layer - and the connections that feed it from across the business.

Design, build, and deploy autonomous background agents and automations that replace repetitive, manual work across departments.

Build and maintain internal web applications that extend Emtech's core software and deliver better information and workflows to employees.

Translate solution concepts and demos into secure, reliable, production-grade systems, and own them through launch and ongoing operation.

Take functional and demo applications built by others to production quality - integrated into the central platform and adopted by their owning teams.

Establish baselines and measure the time saved by each automation so impact is verifiable.

Maintain, update, and improve existing builds as needs change, preventing degradation over time.

Select and apply the right AI models and tools for each task, managing for both quality and cost.

Codify business context, knowledge, and processes into agent-readable context - SOPs, decision rules, terminology, and compliance constraints that agents need to act reliably.

Evaluate emerging AI tools, models, and patterns; separate signal from noise and recommend what to adopt now versus what to wait on.

Treat security and responsible data handling as assumed requirements; partner with IT on access control, least

privilege, and data governance for sensitive systems such as email, finance, payroll, and meeting records.

Document architecture, configurations, and processes so systems are supportable and transferable.

Communicate changes and support adoption with non-technical staff so automated processes are trusted and used.

Partner with the IT Manager on cross-functional initiatives - contributing to planning, configuration, testing, and change management.

Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend scalable, best-practice solutions.

Occasional after-hours work may be required for urgent issues or production go-lives.

Requirements:

5+ years of professional software development experience, including building and operating production systems and integrations.

Hands-on experience building with large language models and agent frameworks (tool use, orchestration, retrieval, and memory).

Strong working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and data modeling; familiarity with knowledge-graph, vector, or other memory layers is a plus.

Practical DevOps skills: deployment, environments, monitoring, and reliability for the systems you build.

Demonstrated ability to integrate and automate across SaaS platforms and APIs (e.g., Microsoft 365, Slack, QuickBooks, BambooHR, or comparable systems).

Fluency with AI-assisted development - using AI coding tools to build and iterate rapidly - paired with the engineering judgment to read, review, debug, and stand behind the resulting code.

A demonstrated commitment to maintaining and improving systems over time, not just building new ones.

Security-minded approach to handling sensitive business data.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Ability to work independently and set technical direction in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional air-conditioned office environment with exposure to fluorescent and LED lighting as well as VDT illumination. Noise levels are low to moderate.

Conditions of Employment

Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

This role may be eligible for partial remote work, telecommuting, virtual or home-based work at manager discretion.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. at a time.

Ability to sit for long periods while working at a computer.

Ability to make repetitive substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, arms, and/or fingers.

Ability to communicate in written or verbal modalities to serve the internal and external customer.

Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, walk, stand, and move about intermittently throughout the day to retrieve documents and collaborate with others.
