Marine Painter - San Diego, CA - Immediately Hiring (1st Shift)
Job Description
- We are seeking skilled Marine Painters and Marine Laborers to support high-priority U.S. Navy corrosion mitigation and ship repair projects in San Diego. This role involves performing shipboard preservation work including painting, sanding, prepping, coating application, cleanup, and assisting skilled technicians. The work will be conducted aboard active Navy vessels at NBSD and other waterfront facilities, directly supporting NAVSEA corrosion mitigation and composite component installation efforts.
Responsibilities
- Perform painting, touch-ups, and preservation on shipboard structures.
- Sand, grind, surface prep, mask, chip, and clean surfaces.
- Assist technicians with coating application and material handling.
- Work aboard ships, piers, dry docks, and industrial marine facilities while adhering to strict safety protocols and NAVSEA standards.
- Complete assignments on schedule in a high-tempo environment.
Essential Skills
- Shipboard painting experience (2+ years preferred).
- Ability to perform preservation, coating, sanding, prepping, masking on Navy vessels.
- Understanding of marine coating processes, surface prep, grinding, sanding, masking, and cleanup activities.
- Ability to apply coatings, primers, and preservation materials inside ship tanks, bilges, voids, and other compartments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- DBIDS access (or ability to obtain immediately).
- Prior shipyard, ship repair, or industrial/manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
- Experience with marine blasting or coating removal.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Firewatch or tank watch experience.
- OSHA-10 or OSHA-Shipyard certification.
- Experience working on CVNs, DDGs, LCS, or Amphib platforms.

Work Environment
- The work environment involves Navy shipboard and shipyard industrial settings, characterized by high-tempo project-driven schedules. Standard hours with frequent overtime opportunities are available. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and will be provided. Work is performed in confined spaces, heights, and active industrial areas within a team-based environment with onsite supervision.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
