American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring Epic EMR experience and a strong medical-surgical background.

- Acute care Med/Surg unit with 20 active beds in a 32-bed unit \n
- Diverse patient population including CP, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic, detox, post-op surgical, and pediatric patients — excludes laboring mothers and patients requiring titrating cardiac or insulin drips \n
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of no more than 1:5; unit staffs both RNs and LPNs \n
- 3 nursing aides per shift provide support \n
- ICU monitors telemetry and faxes strips to Med/Surg nurses for documentation \n
- RT manages CPAP, BiPap, and high-flow oxygen on the unit \n
- No drip titration required of Med/Surg nurses \n
- No charge nurse on unit; House Supervisor manages assignments for nurses and aides \n
- 12-hour rotating day/night shifts (6:45 AM–7:15 PM / PM equivalent) \n
- Every other weekend required; night shift weekends run Friday, Saturday, and Sunday \n
- Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff \n
- No on-call or standby requirement \n
- Floating to other units as a tasker or extra set of hands is required \n
- Charting in Epic EMR — experience is required \n
- 13-week assignment \n

- Active RN license — Maryland or Compact state license required \n
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required; strong med/surg background essential given the variety of patients \n
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS \n
- Epic EMR experience required \n
- Driver's license copy required for consideration \n
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible \n

- Orientation is 3–5 days on the unit, covering policies, tours, introductions, and department-specific training including MedTech, pharmacy, and lab \n
- Manager is open to block scheduling if the traveler has shift preferences \n
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable except camouflage or orange \n
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered; this applies cumulatively and travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one year total before requiring a 2-year break \n
- Former permanent staff of Garrett Regional Medical Center are not eligible to return as travelers \n
- Two professional references required — one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference; if the candidate worked a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility \n
