Job Summary
Clean tanks/vessels in confined spaces and perform general shipyard cleaning
Build and dismantle scaffolds and other wooden structures
Build and dismantle safety handrails and other equipment
Sort, inspect and stack lumber and metal scaffold components
Constructs and dismantles scaffolding of multiple types. Installs and removes sky climbers, safety handrails, lifelines, and water evacuation equipment. Cleans tanks, operates wastewater treatment facilities, operates pump trucks, and performs general shipyard cleanup. Inspects and sorts scaffolding materials. Operates high reaching equipment and saws. Install fire equipment and loads out material in support of ship delivery. Assists other trades in sea trials and launchings. Moves furniture and other equipment as needed. Performs other related task as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualification Standards
Scaffold building experience and a certificate in high reach equipment and sky climbers are required. Must have Scaffold Competent Personal Training. Must have the ability to read and write in English. Must have the ability to read a tape measure and operate power tools safely. Must have the ability to determine the amount and type of materials needed for constructing scaffolds. Must have the ability to pass mechanical reasoning. Must be clean shaven for a respirator fit (modest moustache is fine). Must have the ability to work at heights above thirty feet, in confined spaces, and be able to work any shift. Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions, hear warning signals, and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.
Essential Job Tasks
Construct and dismantle scaffolds and other wooden structures, safety handrails, and other equipment.
Clean tanks, operate Wastewater Treatment Facility, operate pump truck and perform general shipyard clean-up.
Operate high reaching equipment, painting and chipping equipment, and tools such as saws, drills and chainsaws.
Inspect and sort scaffolding materials.
Assist trades in sea trials and launches.
Install fire equipment and load out material in support of ship delivery.
Occasionally move furniture and other equipment.
Work with both the Paint and the Blast Department in performing cross-trade responsibilities.
Other tasks may be assigned relevant to the trade.
Materials, Tools Equipment, Work Aids
Metal, wood, scaffold sub-section, bolts, clips, hand tools, pneumatic tools, high reaching equipment, sky climbers, painting or chipping equipment, cable lines, rope lines and cleaning equipment. Office furniture, file cabinets, dollies and forklifts. Personal protective equipment required.
