In this role, you will serve as a core engineer on a high-performing Agile team modernizing the Global Command and Control System – Joint (GCCS-J). This position challenges you to build high-performance backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot, scale messaging pipelines, and engineer intuitive user interface visuals that fuse the live operational picture for commanders. Compensation Benefits
The annual base salary range for this role is $97,000 - $181,000 (USD), which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered within this pipeline may vary based upon chosen tier (Mid vs. Senior), work experience, education, and/or specific technical skill level.
Clearance: Active federal Secret security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
System Domain Expertise: Prior technical experience working directly with or supporting the Global Command and Control System – Joint (GCCS-J) system of record.
Backend Engineering: Strong professional experience developing robust web services and enterprise APIs using Java and the Spring Boot framework.
Data Messaging Platforms: Hands-on proficiency working with relational databases (SQL) and event-driven distributed messaging platforms like Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Modern Version Control: Routine experience managing collaborative code repositories using Git.
Agile Execution: Deep familiarity participating in Agile/Scrum sprint ceremonies, validating acceptance criteria, and meeting tight mission delivery deadlines.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related STEM field from an accredited college or university.
Mid-Level Track Requirements: 3–6 years of progressive professional software engineering experience.
Senior-Level Track Requirements: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a proven track record of driving technical investigations, guiding architectural decisions, and mentoring junior/mid-level engineers.
Substitution: An equivalent combination of advanced technical certifications, specialized military intelligence/planning training, or additional years of hands-on software development experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- Frontend Visualization: Practical experience building intuitive user interfaces, managing web assets (NPM), and developing responsive layouts using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks like Vue.js, Angular, or React.
- Cloud-Native Architecture: Hands-on development and deployment experience with containerization and orchestration tools, specifically Docker, OCI development, Kubernetes, and Helm charts.
- Advanced Data Modeling: Exposure to flexible query layers, graph databases, or object stores, such as GraphQL or Neo4j.
- DevSecOps Automation: Experience writing Ansible plays and playbooks, configuring CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle), and implementing automated testing tools.
- Defense Standards: Familiarity with Linux/UNIX environments, performance benchmarking, debugging tools, and securing software against DoD STIGs and static analysis tools.
